The ’upside down’ house offers a large games room with football table, pool table, sofa and TV on the ground floor. The spacious master bedroom is also on the ground floor with a separate shower room. On the first floor is the open plan dining and kitchen area, a separate living room with a large multi-fuel burner taking centre stage, and fantastic views overlooking the river. A short drive away is the traditional village of Cartmel, famous for its horse racing weekends and also its sticky toffee pudding. This quirky village is definitely worth a visit. Whilst exploring this area you are close to Grange-over sands, a Victorian seaside town with many shops and cafés to enjoy. South Lakes Safari Zoo is also within easy reach and worth a visit.
Backbarrow is the perfect base to explore the lakes, whether you are planning to enjoy walking a few of the 214 Wainwrights fells, cycling the fantastic roads around here or driving over to many other popular towns around Cumbria including Ulverston, Ambleside, Coniston, Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere, then you really are spoilt for choice! The lovely market town of Ulverston is within a 10-minute drive, its cobbled streets are lined with a great selection independent shops, pubs cafés and restaurants. The home town of the Stan Laurel, half of the famous comedy duo Laurel and Hardy celebrates his birth with The Laurel and Hardy Museum and ‘Another fine fest’, one of the many festivals and events available in the town throughout the year. The beautiful South Lakes area offers a wide selection of breath-taking walks and cycle routes or for the less energetic amongst you there is something for everyone from Michelin starred restaurants, to steam trains, lake cruises, wildlife parks, stately homes, horse racing or even escape rooms.
