The area is rich in wildlife and ideal for walkers. Whitelee Farm is an idyllic base for exploring the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest Park and the Scottish borders. Newcastle and Edinburgh are within an easy drive. Shopping in Otterburn and Jedburgh, both 15 minutes away.

Oak Tree Barn is a lovely barn conversion with bright and airy open plan living accommodation and a cosy wood burner. This delightful, terraced, stone barn conversion is in the centre of Otterburn only 200 yards from the refurbished and highly acclaimed The William de Percy bar, which is dog friendly and has an excellent menu for both lunch and dinner. Otterburn sits on the edge of the National Park in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is approximately 20 minutes from Kielder Water, and only a few miles from Hadrian’s Wall, as well as being very close to the local wedding venues Le Petit Chateau and Otterburn Hall. The village, once the site of the famous 1388 victory of the Scots over the English, nestles close to the banks of the River Rede between the hills and the moors overlooking the North Tyne Valley. With pretty walks and cycle routes from the door, as well as local fishing, horse riding, golf and a friendly village shop/tea room; this is a superb location for a relaxing holiday any time of the year. The village was once the home of a busy weaving industry and houses Otterburn Mill, marking the village’s historic past and a great tourist stop off for afternoon tea. Across from the small public footpath that runs along the front of the cottages, an ideal area for relaxing after a days exploring. The location has easy access to the Northumberland coast with miles of unspoilt and uncrowded golden beaches and an outstanding coastline peppered with castles and friendly locals. The famous Alnwick Castle was used in the filming of Harry Potter and is only 26 miles away. In Alnwick, you can lunch in the famous Treehouse Restaurant, visit the enchanting water gardens or simply stroll the cobbled streets and soak up the history. Shop 400 yards, pub 200 yards.

These two lodges, each with a hot tub on the decking, offer differently-styled accommodation for groups of eight. Ideal for holidays or visiting the two large wedding venues nearby in Otterburn. Leafy Run (ref W44043) is a contemporary-style lodge with a hot tub and a peaceful decked area. Reiver’s Rest (ref UKC3402) was completely renovated in 2018, with a private hot tub on the raised south-facing decking and backs onto the woodland in the top corner of the park, with walks from the door. With a fully renovated restaurant on site, the lodges are less than a mile from the centre of the village of Otterburn, on the very edge of the Northumberland National Park. The park is just inside the Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park, the largest in Europe, ideal for stargazers and astronomers. The village has a mill shop, and the shop/café sells local produce. A highly acclaimed wedding venue, Le Petit Château is easily accessed only a mile away and guests can enjoy staying in the lodges and having some downtime after the wedding. The long wooded drive up to the park sets the scene for your break away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Stonyfield Cottage is the ideal get away for couples, friends or families, It offers a tranquil and relaxing location with beautiful countryside views. Set on the outskirts of Rochester, within the Northumberland National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a designated Dark Sky area. The cottage is only a few hundred yards from the A68 up an old Roman road known as Bremenium Way. Rochester is very close to the popular, historical and picturesque village of Otterburn.
At the South-facing rear of the property, there is a large decked area with plenty of outdoor seating, looking out onto an expansive wildlife garden with far-reaching views towards Kielder Forest. The decked area also houses the hot tub where visitors are able to enjoy for the ultimate in relaxation and stargazing. In the winter months they can enjoy the most fabulous wood burning stove and cosy up in front of the large smart TV where you can enjoy Netflix and Amazon.
A sunroom and separate dining room ensure there is plenty of space for two families to spread out, along with a large living room and kitchen/diner. The area around Stonyfield Cottage is rural and unspoilt with lots of outdoor activities to enjoy including plenty of walks along the many footpaths and cycling around Kielder Forest and Kielder Water (which is only 15 miles via the Forest Drive route or a little further should you wish to take the main road route). Walking, Hiking and Fishing are particularly popular around the area. The Scottish Border at Carter Bar is a mere 12 miles so you can easily visit Scotland whilst holidaying at Stonyfield. The border towns of Hawick, Kelso and Jedburgh are also easily accessible from here. Of course, you will want to visit Hadrian’s Wall, maybe stop off at Housesteads Roman Fort or why not take a trip over to the Northumberland Heritage Coast, only 32 miles to Warkworth Beach where you can spend a wonderful day exploring castles and beaches up and down this golden coastline.

The nearby town of Wooler is set along the last leg of the journey, so you needn’t traverse the full length. Wooler itself is just under 4 miles away and features a good range of shops, pubs, restaurants, and facilities. It is without doubt dominated by its magnificently striking castle that can be seen for miles around. Why not hit the waves yourself with a trip to the Farne Islands? Take a boat trip from Seahouses and see the Medieval Pele Tower and Victorian Lighthouse, as well as the famous seabird colony. Depending on the time of year, you might catch a glimpse of the friendly seals and puffins that visit the islands’ shores. Golfers flock to Bamburgh, where the Bamburgh Castle Golf Club offers a particularly picturesque round. It’s short but tough and boasts some of the best views in the country!
