This pretty stone holiday cottage is set in a row of three on a quiet road overlooking open countryside on the Heritage coastal route midway between Alnwick and Seahouses, 3 miles from Embleton. The property is furnished and equipped to provide traditional, comfortable holiday accommodation. Guests are welcome to roam the owner’s farmland with its many bridle walks. Practically on the doorstep of your cottage you have the coast with its long, silver beaches complemented by striking castles. Craster is a picturesque fishing village with the most delicious kippers and the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle is a short drive away, as are Alnmouth and Alnwick, with Europe’s largest water garden and the magnificent 11th-century castle. Seahouses, a bustling harbour seaside resort, is only 10 minutes and a great place to start with fishing trips and ferries to the Farne Islands to see the bird and seal colonies, organised by a number of companies. The coastline is peppered with small fishing villages, and inland you have the hills and forests. Both sea and river fishing are in abundance in Northumerland. You can also fish at Alnmouth beach without a licence or head up along the River Aln for salmon fishing. There are numerous lake fisheries too - the primary ones being at Caiston, Fontburn and Felton Frence, all providing tuition and equipment hire. Inglenook is located in the centre of Backbarrow in the South Lakes peninsula, a perfect base from which to visit many popular attractions in the Lake District. A short drive away is Newby Bridge. This popular area is home to the Lakes Aquarium and Windermere Lake cruises.

The ’upside down’ house offers a large games room with football table, pool table, sofa and TV on the ground floor. The spacious master bedroom is also on the ground floor with a separate shower room. On the first floor is the open plan dining and kitchen area, a separate living room with a large multi-fuel burner taking centre stage, and fantastic views overlooking the river. There are also three double bedrooms and a family bathroom.

A short drive away is the traditional village of Cartmel, famous for its horse racing weekends and also its sticky toffee pudding. This quirky village is definitely worth a visit. Whilst exploring this area you are close to Grange-over sands, a Victorian seaside town with many shops and cafés to enjoy. South Lakes Safari Zoo is also within easy reach and worth a visit.

Backbarrow is the perfect base to explore the lakes, whether you are planning to enjoy walking a few of the 214 Wainwrights fells, cycling the fantastic roads around here or driving over to many other popular towns around Cumbria including Ulverston, Ambleside, Coniston, Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere, then you really are spoilt for choice! Alnwick the ducal town with the popular castle is only a few miles North where some scenes for the Harry Potter and Downton Abbey Films were shot. Nearby Northumberland Zoo is a good day out for the children and Burgham Park Golf Course is nearby. Being close to a great road network you can explore easily from here even taking a day trip to Berwick on Tweed almost on the Scottish Border where you can explore the history of the borders of England and Scotland. Well House is an imposing, lovingly furnished with Farrow & Ball colour schemes, Grade II listed home dating back to the early 1700s (circa 1640), which retains many of its original period features, being high ceilings and exposed beams. Formerly the Angel Inn, Well House faces the high street in the popular village of Belford. This property was believed to have been protected throughout war due to the property being the main source of water for the village, and amazingly the well still remains in the cellar of this historic property! Well House has significant historical local importance and legend. Directly next door to the property there is award-winning Well House Café which offers the most mouth-watering home cooked bakes and breakfasts, ideally located.
Sleeping 8 guests over 2 floors with three bedrooms plus a master suite boasting outstanding features throughout, this property is ideal for a large gathering of family or friends to celebrate a special occasion. Belford, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a quaint village retreat in an excellent location for cyclists, walkers, historians, and families to explore Bamburgh, Seahouses, Berwick, Alnwick, Holy Islands and Cheviot Hills in Northumberland National Park. It also has pubs serving food, fish & chips, restaurants, newsagents, farm shop, museum, church, and supermarket, along with some great local walks. The picture-postcard, coastal village of Bamburgh, dominated by its majestic fortress and wide expanse of golden, sandy beach is only 5 miles away.

Acklington village is an ideal location to explore all the surrounding areas. Northumberland is such a diverse county with miles of golden sandy beaches nearby and the most stunning National Park, famed for its dark skies. Head up further north and discover Holy Island, where the Lindisfarne Gospels were kept, and Bamburgh with the cliff top castle. Wherever you go from Ad Gefrin, you will be sure of a warm and genuine welcome from the local Northumbrian people.

Set in a prime position close to all shops, pubs cafes and the harbour in this small friendly seaside town, you’ll find Castle View House. A super house to spend time relaxing with family or friends, the separate kitchen and diner are ideal for preparing meals and socialising. A stroll along the estuary brings you to Warkworth about 2 miles, a picture postcard village with the castle sitting at the top of the hill. Here you can stop off in one of the friendly pubs or cafes. Further along the coast, you come to Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh, all steeped in history and lovely for a few hours exploring.
A little further north you can cross the causeway and visit Holy Island (check the crossing time) for a truly step back in time experience. The railway station at Alnmouth is only a few minutes drive where you can board a train to Edinburgh or Newcastle and spend a great day exploring these historic cities steeped in history. Alnwick is only 15 minutes away with its majestic castle used in some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes, a great experience for both adults and children where you can look around the small town exploring the cobbled streets and shops.
The beaches up the Northumberland Coast Area Of National Beauty remain unspoilt and underpopulated, so there is always a place to find some seclusion should you wish. Cresswell and Druridge Bay beaches remain isolated most of the time and are only a short drive away. Whilst in Northumberland why not take a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall for a completely different day trip away from the coast and discover more about the Romans and the famous Roman Wall?
