A spacious cottage of contemporary and traditional design, Bertram Cottage has been refurbished throughout in 2019, with great attention to detail. This terraced cottage displays some exposed stone work, and is only a couple of minutes’ walk from a café and a very friendly village pub. The property is perfect for couples or a small family, and has a charming enclosed rear seating area. Dogs are welcome here, and there are plenty of walking paths nearby.
The pretty little village of Felton is only a few miles from Alnwick Castle and Gardens, where you can explore some history. Fans of Harry Potter will also discover interesting facts there, since the castle was used in some film scenes. Located midway between Alnwick and Morpeth, Bertram Cottage makes a great base from which to explore this county, which was voted the best county to holiday in at the 2018 British Tourism Awards.
Felton is very easily accessed from the A1 making touring around easy. A great golf course at Burgham Park is only 3 miles away, and the Heritage coast is nearby with miles of golden sandy beaches to explore. Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England, and all are easily reached from the cottage. The historic Roman town of Corbridge is only 40 miles away, where you can discover Hadrian’s Wall and see where the Romans lived. Morpeth is only a few miles distant and has a great collection of cafés, pubs and some lovely shops, as well as a riverside with rowing boats. The fishing harbour of Craster is only 15 miles, where you can treat yourself to famous Craster smoked kippers. A little further and you will come to Bamburgh and Holy Island (check tides). Amble is close by and has a fabulous Sunday market where you can find friendly locals and stock up on your fish or meat. After the market, you may like to stop at one of the lovely fish and chip shops or local restaurants, or even treat yourself to an ice cream at the shop along the way.

From the harbour, the views towards Warkworth Castle are lovely on a clear day and you can walk to Warkworth from Amble along past the marina and river. Nearby Warkworth is a pretty, picture postcard village dominated by its castle which sits at the top of the village. The local pubs and cafés are all well worth a visit too.

Amble is close to the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed, with miles of golden beaches and castles. Northumberland is a very diverse county having the largest dark sky National Park in Europe so a visit over there should be taken to experience the beautiful forests and rugged terrain, making a lovely change to the coast. No trip to Northumberland is complete without a visit to Hadrian’s Wall, steeped in history, museums showing Roman artefacts and lovely walks. Only a few miles south you have beautiful beaches at Tynemouth and the lovely Spanish city in Whitley Bay. Alnmouth station is only a few miles away, and here you can catch the east coast train up to Edinburgh or down to Newcastle or York for day trips to remember. Amble is centrally located for exploring in every directions and a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder National Park or up the Heritage Coast are all easily accessible from here. Nearby Alnwick is home to the Duke of Northumberland, the famous castle being featured in Harry Potter is a huge attraction as is the Duchess water gardens. Alnwick has some cobbled streets and a selection of cafés, pubs and shops to while away a few hours. Travel a few minutes away to Morpeth, an historic and important little town where you will find plenty of shops and cafés as well as riverside boats and leisure complex. You may wish to travel north to Berwick on Tweed, under an hour away where you can be close to the Scottish Borders taking a day to discover more history about the county. After a busy day, return back to your relaxing hot tub where you can treasure the memories to take home with you.

Seaside Retreat is set in the heart of Amble, close to the harbour where you will find some lovely little eating places and seats to sit and watch the fishing boats.
This good size holiday home is ideal for couples or a small family with a south facing rear sitting-out area which is fully enclosed and catches the sun until evening. This comfortable holiday home has plenty of space for four and reflects a coastal theme throughout. A walk along the pier is always pleasant with some lovely sunsets to finish off your day. A pleasant walk along the river brings you to Warkworth about 2 miles, a picture postcard village with the castle sat at the top of the hill, stop off in one of the friendly pubs or cafes. Further along the coast you come to Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh all steeped in history and lovely for a few hours exploring. A little further past here you can cross the causeway and visit Holy Island for a step back in time experience. The railway station at Alnmouth is only a few minutes’ drive where you can hop onto a train to Edinburgh or Newcastle and spend a great day exploring these historic cities steeped in history.
Alnwick is only 15 minutes away with its majestic castle used in some harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes, a great experience for both adults and children. Look around the small town exploring the cobbled streets and shops. The beaches up the Northumberland Coast AONB remain unspoilt and underpopulated so there is always a place to find some seclusion should you wish, Cresswell and Druridge Bay beaches remain isolated most of the time and are only a short drive south. Whilst in Northumberland why not take a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall for a completely different day trip away from the coast and discover more about the Romans and the famous Roman Wall. Cairnswood is a bright airy and comfortable lodge for couples or friends to have some downtime, relax in the bubbling hot tub on the raised deck which wraps around the lodge, and sit and watch the world go by. Children with you would love the Northumberland Zoo which is only half a mile or within walking distance for those who enjoy walking. Burgham Park Golf course is only half a mile, ideal for the golfers in the family. Nearby Alnwick is home to the Duke and Duchess where you can visit the majestic castle used in some Harry Potter scenes, or visit the Duchess enchanting water gardens then meander the streets soaking up the history.

Nearby Morpeth is a very pretty little market town with some wonderful bars and restaurants and an Edwardian shopping arcade to explore, as well as river boats down on the river Wansbeck. Nearby Felton has an award-winning café and a friendly pub serving lovely food and drinks. Being close to the A1 means you can travel in all directions going somewhere different every day, perhaps a day over at Hadrian’s Wall taking in the Roman Forts and glorious countryside would appeal to you, or perhaps a day trip to the Dark Sky International National park would suit, or maybe even some retail therapy in Newcastle where you can enjoy the Quayside and culture of the streets and buildings.
