For the energetic, there are seven munros to climb within 10 miles, including Ben Lawers, Perthshire’s highest mountain. Schiehallion, Dun Beag and Dun Coillich can be seen from Frith View. It is also ideal countryside for cycling and mountain biking in the forests.

For a day out, and only 5 miles along the road at the end of Loch Tay, is the pretty conservation village of Kenmore where guests can enjoy riverside walks, participate in water sports, take a boat trip on the loch or discover several excellent places to eat. The Croft na Caber Centre, which is a reconstruction of an Iron Age stilt dwelling built over the water is one of the most renowned watersports centres in Scotland. The village hosts regular events, each January there is a ceremony to mark the opening of the salmon fishing season, as the Tay is one of the finest angling rivers, and there is a firework display at New Year. Aberfeldy is only a 20 minutes drive with local interesting independent shops, a supermarket, galleries, eating places, a community run cinema and an award-winning book shop. The famous Dewar’s Whisky Distillery offers tour and sampling and there are riverside walks and white water rafting for the more adventurous. A Highland safari takes you up into the mountains to see local wildlife including deer, peregrine falcons, ospreys and golden eagles. Set on a working arable and cattle farm, within the owner’s 2000-acre estate in the Vale of Strathmore, these four welcoming and spacious holiday cottages have been restored to a very high standard. The most recent addition to the collection, Kingfisher Cottage (UK38211) is a renovated, detached, single-storey luxury cottage, tucked way down a farm track. With two stylish bedrooms and beautiful quality furnishings throughout, the high ceilinged open plan living room/kitchen features an eyecatching wood burner flanked by full length picture windows, making the most of the view for the ultimate relaxing experience. Islabank Farmhouse (ref SAAP) is a traditional, characterful, comfortable farmhouse which is ideal for families. Curlew Cottage (ref SYYJ) is a charming, beautifully converted, detached, single-storey property and a haven for wildlife. Still part of the farm but located 4 miles away is Osprey Cottage (ref UZQ), a delightful, light and sunny, single-storey detached cottage.
Set amongst beautiful farmland and fruit-growing country, they make an excellent choice for relaxing breaks in the heart of rural Perthshire. The estate makes an ideal base for exploring central Scotland, Edinburgh, Perth, St Andrews and the Highlands. Glamis Castle is a few miles away. Craigdarroch Cottage is a quaint, newly refurbished coachman’s cottage which dates back some 100 years. It is located in St Fillans in Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. St Fillans is a picturesque village in a tranquil location set on the banks of Loch Earn. The cottage is perfectly positioned for exploring the National Park and the Southern Highlands. Walking, biking, golfing, fishing, and water sports are among the many activities available. Several walks can be taken directly from the cottage; you can stroll along the old railway or venture into the surrounding mountains, both of which give you a stunning view of Loch Earn. There are ospreys on the loch and red squirrels in the nearby area, as well as deer and other wildlife. After a day in the Scottish countryside, you can relax in front of the wood burning stove in the cosy cottage with its loch view.
Offering a fantastic open plan living area with a kitchen, cooker island with breakfast bar, dining table and comfortable sofas surrounding the wood burner. The bedroom is cosy and comfortable guaranteeing a good night’s sleep after a day of exploring this beautiful part of Scotland. A new decking has been built which can be reached by climbing approximately 30 steps and affords a stunning view down the loch. There is a dedicated parking space opposite the property. St Fillans Village Store is located a few minutes’ walk from the cottage where you can buy groceries and newspapers. It also has a cafe providing snacks, coffee, ice cream and cakes. You can purchase fishing permits here for Loch Earn. There are two hotels in the village which offer evening meals if you feel like dining out, and a bar service; both are dog friendly.
St Fillans has its own 9-hole golf course (voted the best 9-hole course in Scotland), each hole is challenging, and the scenery is breath-taking. There are many golf courses to choose from the vicinity including the prestigious Gleneagles. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, and Stirling can all be reached by car within 1 hour 15 minutes.

These three properties are situated in a peaceful wooded area with walks right from the doorstep and numerous roe deer around, yet only 2½ miles from the village of Dunkeld with its shops, ancient fountain and cathedral. Osprey Cottage (ref 15885) has been converted to create a super holiday retreat with rugs on polished wooden floors upstairs in the living areas, and cosy bedrooms below. Heather Croft (ref 26213) is a detached bungalow nearby, cleverly designed by the owners with lots of windows to maximize views of the surrounding countryside. The But ‘n’ Ben (ref 28139) is a charming converted barn for two. An ideal choice whatever the weather. Next door to Dunkeld is Birnam, home of the Beatrix Potter exhibition and where there are riverside walks along the Tay. An 18-hole golf course is 1½ miles away beside the Loch of Lowes Wildlife Reserve. There are walks and cycle tracks in the bordering forest. Fishing locally. Shops and pubs 2½ miles.

Built in the 1800s, the cottage was originally for the river keeper at the world’s first salmon hatchery, and the ruins of the ‘fishponds’ are visible from the garden today. The owners have made the most of the location with careful design of the garden which leads down to the river, allowing direct access to the riverbank trails along the River Tay, and nearby a well-maintained lade trail which boasts a beautiful scenic walk leading to a small isolated natural beach, Horsey Pool and Stanley Mills.

The owners really want you to enjoy your stay and are very knowledgeable about the river and surrounding area. A nature lover’s paradise, the lade trail offers a rare opportunity to glimpse beavers and otters which are regularly sighted. Other British birds include ospreys, herons, peregrine falcons, woodpeckers, owls and kingfishers, all frequent visitors to the area. The River Tay is of course one of the prime salmon fishing rivers and fishing may be available by arrangement directly with the owner. The area is also abundant in other rivers and lochs all offering outstanding but easily accessible trout and salmon fishing at very reasonable prices.

Of course, you don’t need to be a fisherman to enjoy this cottage. The immediate area has lots more to offer, with Perth itself offering plenty in the way of culture and shopping as well as good restaurants and cafes. St Andrews and Gleneagles, famous for their world-renowned golf courses, are an easy drive with other highly rated local golf courses nearby.

The property is situated on the historic Scone Palace grounds, the crowning place of Scottish kings and the original home of the Stone of Scone, which is open to visitors throughout the year. Relax and enjoy a peaceful break in this newly converted cottage in the heart of the tiny hamlet of Kettins. As its name suggests, it is set down the lane to the local church and has wonderful south-facing sunny views towards the fields and hills beyond. The market town of Coupar Angus is ¾ mile and within walking distance if you fancy a drink or a bite to eat at the local inn.

The area is perfect for walkers and cyclists, as there are plenty of waymarked paths through arable countryside of the Vale of Strathmore through Meigle, Ardler and Coupar Angus to the more challenging glens beyond Blairgowrie. Renowned for its soft fruit, there are plenty of good cafés and restaurants nearby showcasing local produce and a good range of shops locally and further afield in Dundee and Perth. Glamis Castle, the childhood home of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, and the Pictish Stone Museum, are well worth a visit, and the cottage is within half an hour of the Cairngorms National Park. The ski slopes at Glenshee are a short drive and Pitlochry is within easy reach. Golfers have plenty of courses to choose from including Rosemount and Carnoustie, or explore the clean sandy beaches strung out along the east coast.
