Glenshee, Scotland’s largest ski resort, is one hour away and a short walk from the cottage will give you a choice of bars, restaurants and shops. The property is just a few minutes from the River Tummel, famous for its salmon fishing. On the outskirts of the town lies an 18 hole golf course with wonderful views across the Tummel Valley. For family entertainment, the Pitlochry Festival Theatre is a must, Faskally Woods and Pitlochry Putting Green are also worth a visit. There are plenty of country walks and cycle paths with lots of wildlife to look out for including deer, wild birds and red squirrels. The historic town of Perth is only 26 miles away. Escape to this splendid detached barn conversion in rural Perthshire, which is just a short drive from Auchterarder with its 1½-mile long high street lined with a splendid selection of eateries and bespoke shopping. Woodend Farm Barn nestles close to the owner’s home on Woodend Farm, now a 10-acre smallholding where Highland cattle and sheep graze. It was built well before the railway line, which is spanned by two beautiful bridges on the edge of the farm garden.
For many years, the farm operated as an 80-acre pig farm, but in 1999, a 10-acre section was sold off and the new owners completely transformed it. The farmhouse remained, but many of the sheds were taken down to leave just a small section, which was turned into stables. When the current owners took over in 2009, the barn itself was initially used as a machinery store and then a lambing shed, the barn has now been converted into a holiday home with a private hot tub, where guests can relax in the evening with a glass of wine in hand.

There are local events, including Comrie Fortnight in early August and Flambeau New Year celebrations. From you doorstep, you can enjoy lots of lovely cycle routes and walks, and for the more adventurous, there are 43 munro mountains within a 1-hour drive. Loch Earn is 6 miles away, which offers sailing and water sports, and for nature lovers, the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre is just 2 miles. There are many interesting places to visit in the area, including historic castles and gardens, and whisky distilleries. Stirling is 24 miles away, Perth 25 miles, Callander 26 miles, Glasgow 50 miles and Edinburgh 60 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Aberfeldy is less than 10 minutes’ drive away and is well worth visiting, with a good selection of quality places to eat, local independent shops and a supermarket, galleries, book shops, an Art Deco cinema and a whisky distillery.

There are ample opportunities for walker of all abilities with the 7 Munros circuit within 10 miles, including Ben Lawers (Perthshire’s highest mountain) and Schiehallion. Follow mountain biking trails through the forest, or enjoy white water rafting on the River Tay, bungee jumping and horse riding, all available close by. Golf enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with numerous 9 and 18-hole courses in the area. The lodge is in an ideal location for exploring further afield, including Perth, Stirling, Pitlochry, Oban and Glencoe, all within a comfortable driving distance, as are the ski slopes at Aviemore and Glenshee

Waterloo Farm House is a traditional, stone-built, C-listed, detached cottage with a generous sized garden, providing a wonderful place for couples, friends and families to relax and enjoy this excellent property. Set in the quiet hamlet of Waterloo, it is believed that the original properties in the area were built for the soldiers returning from the Napoleonic Wars or for the widows of soldiers who did not return from the famous battle. It is thought that Waterloo Farm House was built around 1815 and in recent times was a berry farm but is no longer a working farm.
This beautiful cottage has been completely rebuilt internally to provide a modern layout and was just completed in summer 2019, yet still maintains its original charm and character. Waterloo Farm House is in a great location for exploring this picturesque area which you can do on foot or by bike and there are lots of footpaths and quiet lanes directly from the doorstep. The village of Bankfoot is just 1 mile away, with a pavement all the way from the cottage and is very handy for a local store or one of the two local small hotels with bars. The attractive town of Dunkeld is only 5 miles away and makes a great day out with its historic cathedral and buildings, and a good selection of quality restaurants, coffee shops, delis, interesting independent shops, galleries and walks along the River Tay. Birnam is close by and is one of the best preserved historic towns in Scotland. The Arts Centre is home to the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden which is well worth a visit. Walk along the riverside and discover magnificent old trees in the Birnam Wood which was mentioned in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The bustling city of Perth is only 10 miles away and is packed with places to eat and drink and has a theatre, museum, swimming pool and a great selection of shops including high street names and local boutiques. The railway stations at both Perth and Dunkeld have frequent services to Inverness and Aviemore, or you could be in the centre of Edinburgh in just over an hour without the stress of finding parking. There are regular events throughout the year including the Crieff Highland Games and the autumn Drovers Walking Festival.
This area provides outdoor activities for all levels of skill. If you prefer more strenuous activities, then mountains such as Ben Vorlich, Ben Chonzie and Ben Lawers provide some excellent walking, with water sports available on Loch Earn, as well as mountain biking. For a less energetic day there are beautiful riverside walks along the banks of the River Earn and Turret. Those interested in golf can enjoy a range of courses in the surrounding area.
This area is steeped in history with tales of the outlaws and the Jacobite rebellion, an historic castle and monuments to visit in the area.
