On the ground floor you will find an impressive well-equipped kitchen, a shower room, a wee snug room with Smart TV, wood burner to cuddle up by in the evening, and the perfect little dining area for enjoying a takeaway or a lovingly prepared meal for a loved one. Upstairs is a very large open bedroom with a sumptuous super kingsize bed on one side of the room, and a double sofa bed on the other, should you need additional or alternative sleeping, and is a great space to relax in and read. Outside the owner has sectioned off a part of the garden specially for guests to sit out and enjoy.
Aberfeldy is a popular town with shops, coffee shops, pub and great restaurants set in some of the most stunning landscapes in Scotland. Just 6 miles away you will find Loch Tay, one of the largest lochs in Perthshire, framed by majestic mountains and hillside farms and cottages. As well as being the popular playground of sailors and water sports enthusiasts, the loch is home to 18 ancient dwellings called crannogs. Nearby to the north, Glen Lyon is often described as the longest, loneliest, and loveliest glen in Scotland, and has a wonderfully mystical atmosphere.

Craigdarroch Cottage is a quaint, newly refurbished coachman’s cottage which dates back some 100 years. It is located in St Fillans in Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. St Fillans is a picturesque village in a tranquil location set on the banks of Loch Earn. The cottage is perfectly positioned for exploring the National Park and the Southern Highlands. Walking, biking, golfing, fishing, and water sports are among the many activities available. Several walks can be taken directly from the cottage; you can stroll along the old railway or venture into the surrounding mountains, both of which give you a stunning view of Loch Earn. There are ospreys on the loch and red squirrels in the nearby area, as well as deer and other wildlife. After a day in the Scottish countryside, you can relax in front of the wood burning stove in the cosy cottage with its loch view.

St Fillans Village Store is located a few minutes’ walk from the cottage where you can buy groceries and newspapers. It also has a cafe providing snacks, coffee, ice cream and cakes. You can purchase fishing permits here for Loch Earn. There are two hotels in the village which offer evening meals if you feel like dining out, and a bar service; both are dog friendly.
St Fillans has its own 9-hole golf course (voted the best 9-hole course in Scotland), each hole is challenging, and the scenery is breath-taking. There are many golf courses to choose from the vicinity including the prestigious Gleneagles. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, and Stirling can all be reached by car within 1 hour 15 minutes.

There is nothing quite like this typical Scottish village which sits on the banks of the River Earn in Perthshire, about 6 miles from Crieff and the same distance from the lovely Loch Earn. About a century ago, a town house dating back to the 18th century burned to the ground in the centre of the village. Rennie Mackintosh was employed to rebuild this house, and this remarkable A-listed dwelling is now available for rent as a holiday retreat.
In the staircase’s stairwell is a photo of Mackintosh’s workbook, in his own handwriting, detailing his tenders for the work. As you enter the house from the street, you climb the panelled staircase to the front door. Located on this level is the living area with an open plan kitchen, leather suite, open fireplace and dining area. The kitchen features a fine Art Deco mirror over the original fireplace. In the front room, windows look out onto the nearby churchyard and river, which is only a minute’s walk away, and to the rear, across garden areas. There is a handy toilet on this level too. As this house is cute and quirky head downstairs to the lower level, where you will find two cosy snug double bedrooms (accessed by another Mackintosh staircase’ different from the ones you entered the property). One bedroom, with a lovely Mackintosh-style bed, has a cosy en-suite with a shower cubicle and toilet, and the second double bedroom has what looks like a wardrobe, which if you open, reveals a full size spa bath with shower over.

On the Pitlochry Path network, the cottage is on the doorstep of the dramatic Black Spout Waterfall walk, on the Edradour Path, one of several woodland walks in the immediate vicinity. Explore the many walks through this beautiful area, with routes through nearby Moulin and into Pitlochry itself or through miles of woodland and along banks of lochs and rivers, or up the nearby mountains and hills, including Ben Vrackie. Pitlochry itself is just a few minutes drive and is a year-round destination with many attractions throughout the year. Visit Pitlochry Dam and the Fish Ladder, with an excellent exhibition downstairs, interactive models on how electricity is created and salmon swimming up the fish ladder itself.
The town is home to the Caledonia Etape, an 81-mile circular cycle challenge, which traverses some of the most beautiful parts of Highland Perthshire. In the autumn, the Enchanted Forest is a real spectacle and well worth seeing, while the famous Theatre in the Hills, Pitlochry Festival Theatre has productions throughout the year. There really is something for everyone here in this fantastic part of Perthshire!

Although very quiet, the cottage is only a few minutes’ walk to the town, where you will find lots of interesting shops, cafés, good restaurants and leisure facilities including two championship courses in the town and an abundance of other courses nearby each with its own special character, as well as internationally famous Gleneagles, St Andrews and Carnoustie a bit further afield. There are picturesque walks along the River Ericht running through the town, which join up with the Ardblair and Cateran Trails.
Ideally situated for exploring the many delights Perthshire has to offer, whether it’s golf, walking, cycling, or visiting local attractions like Glamis Castle, Scone Palace, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the list is endless. The ski slopes at Glenshee are a short drive and the cities of Perth, Dundee or Edinburgh as well as the House of Bruar and Pitlochry are well worth a visit for some retail therapy. Cycling, fishing and tennis are nearby, and excellent hillwalking is available in the Angus Glens. Alternatively, explore the clean sandy beaches strung out along the east coast. This gorgeous cottage set within extensive gardens is in a superb location on the banks of the renowned River Tay in an utterly secluded spot, down a hidden beaten track yet within a 10-minute drive of the Fair City of Perth and all its attractions. A perfect choice for families or friends, it has been superbly renovated to provide extremely comfortable accommodation for discerning holidaymakers, with a warm and welcoming interior and tasteful furnishings. Built in the 1800s, the cottage was originally for the river keeper at the world’s first salmon hatchery, and the ruins of the ‘fishponds’ are visible from the garden today. The owners have made the most of the location with careful design of the garden which leads down to the river, allowing direct access to the riverbank trails along the River Tay, and nearby a well-maintained lade trail which boasts a beautiful scenic walk leading to a small isolated natural beach, Horsey Pool and Stanley Mills.

The owners really want you to enjoy your stay and are very knowledgeable about the river and surrounding area. A nature lover’s paradise, the lade trail offers a rare opportunity to glimpse beavers and otters which are regularly sighted. Other British birds include ospreys, herons, peregrine falcons, woodpeckers, owls and kingfishers, all frequent visitors to the area. The River Tay is of course one of the prime salmon fishing rivers and fishing may be available by arrangement directly with the owner. The area is also abundant in other rivers and lochs all offering outstanding but easily accessible trout and salmon fishing at very reasonable prices.

Of course, you don’t need to be a fisherman to enjoy this cottage. The immediate area has lots more to offer, with Perth itself offering plenty in the way of culture and shopping as well as good restaurants and cafes. St Andrews and Gleneagles, famous for their world-renowned golf courses, are an easy drive with other highly rated local golf courses nearby.
