Fair Maid (ref UK11078) sits in the courtyard of a former farm in the heart of the village of Kentisbeare, East Devon. With its wood clad exterior, it is well laid out with a comfortable interior, making the property perfect for couples, friends or a small family. There is an enclosed patio at the rear of the barn which is bordered by a stream and is the ideal spot for a morning coffee or a glass of your favourite tipple on a balmy summer’s evening. This is a superb house which has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard and boasts a cosy wood burner, together with many original features. The kitchen/breakfast room looks out over the grounds.

Glimsters Cottage (ref UK31014) is a lovely thatched cottage which has been sympathetically restored to uncover much of its original charm and character boasting original exposed beams, stone walls and lots of welcoming touches such as a blazing a wood burner. A spacious living room and a well-equipped kitchen/dining room have been make up the ground floor. On the first floor you will find two sumptuous bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, as well as a family bathroom.

Famed for its laid back vibe and surfing lifestyle, Devon hosts an enchanting cocktail of golden beaches, traditional villages and a rich, rolling countryside steeped in history. For walkers and birdwatchers, this really is the most suitable location as there are so many walks to enjoy from the front door. It is ideally located in the traditional seaside village of Combe Martin, just 1½ miles from the beach. This delightful North Devon village nestles within a fertile valley with the sea on one side and Exmoor National Park on the other. It has everything you need for the ideal holiday with secluded sandy beaches, rock pools to explore, dramatic coastal scenery and lots to do nearby.

The open plan living space has a cosy wood burner to curl up beside on a chilly evening and access onto a covered terrace where you can enjoy a morning coffee, overlooking the valley whilst you plan your day. There is a additional fridge/freezer located in the garage, which can be requested through the owner. The two bedrooms downstairs have crisp cotton sheets, sumptuous beds and the master bedroom has French doors leading to the garden. If you are lucky on a still day you can hear the distant roar of the lions, the howl of the wolves and the chatter of the monkeys at the nearby wildlife park. At Blurridge Barn you truly are transported to another world.

Fans of the great outdoors can hike along to Great Hangman, the tallest sea cliff in mainland Britain, or follow the 230 hidden steps down to Golden Cove for some spectacular views. Situated on the South West Coast Path, Combe Martin is also home to several dog friendly pubs and has a good selection of local stores. If you fancy getting out on the water you can hire a kayak or stand-up paddle board in the village and take to the calm waters in the bay.

Young and young at heart will enjoy the unique experience of the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, just 2 miles away, where you can swim with sea lions, meet the meerkats and see the animatronic dinosaurs in action!

Exmoor Zoo is just 10 miles from the property and the larger seaside town of Ilfracombe is 5 miles away. Its highlights include the harbour and the famous ‘Verity’ statue, the Victorian Tunnels beach and Landmark Theatre. There is also a good range of shops, restaurants and amenities. Other highlights in the area are Watermouth Castle, the breathtaking cliff railway between Lynton and Lynmouth and there is great walking on Exmoor. At Woolacombe and Croyde you will find some of the best surfing and family beaches in the country. There is good access to the coast where you can sample the delights of Beer, Branscombe and Seaton. For those willing to travel further, there is access onto Dartmoor National Park, and Exeter has a lot to offer visitors. There are numerous National Trust properties in the area including Killerton, Castle Drogo and Knightshayes. As you enter Tubs Cottage you are instantly greeted with its cottage-like charm. Refurbished in 2022, you find yourself in the well-equipped kitchen area, with its wooden beamed ceiling and quirky shaped corners. There is a door from the kitchen area leading onto the family bathroom, a spacious room with bath and shower above. The living area is accessed via the other side of the kitchen and it is as if this cosy room hugs you when you enter, a great place to relax in front of the electric fire, watching TV with a glass of wine after a long day out. From here there is a couple of steps up leading into a conservatory-like ’breakfast room’ area with table and chair seating. The staircase leads from the living room to the first floor where two of the three bedrooms are located. These bedrooms both have a double bed and good size with storage. Up a second flight of stairs leads to the loft room (guests are advised that there is a fixed rope handrail leading up to this room and there is a restricted head height due to the pitch of the roof). This room makes a 2nd living area with twin beds. The small front garden/patio with garden furniture and parasol is perfect for watching the world go by on summer’s evenings.

Tubs Cottage is Grade ll listed thatched cottage dating back to around 1450. It is situated just outside of the heart of Newton Abbot and benefits from an array of amenities on your doorstep. There is a local pub with pool table directly across the road with private car park serving food and drinks. Local takeaways and fish and chip shops are just down the road, as well as a local convenience store and post office. There is also a small retail park with a variety of shops all within walking distance. The local seaside town of Shaldon and Teignmouth, with its pier and beaches, is just a short 10-minute drive away, and the city of Exeter is just a 20-minute drive from the cottage. There is a railway station just 1½ miles away, if you want a car free day out. The surrounding towns which make up the English Riviera are also all nearby and make great days out for all the family!

There is even a comfy arm chair where you can take a seat, enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching someone else do the cooking. The large living/dining room sits to the front of the property and is flooded with natural light from the large picture window. A large sofa takes centre stage in front of the warming gas fire, an ideal spot to cosy up on during the evening to watch your favourite holiday movie on the large Smart TV. Along the corridor is the house bathroom with bath and shower over. The accommodation is completed by a double bedroom, slide open the cupboard doors and you’ll find the hidden TV or perhaps in the morning throw open the French doors and enjoy an early morning coffee before getting ready for the day ahead. To the rear of the enclosed garden is a sunken seating area with fire pit, a lovely space to sit and relax after a long day exploring the local area.
Two miles away is the stunning Hunmanby Gap, a popular beach with locals, which offers a friendly café during the summer months. The delightful seaside town of Filey is a little further up the coast and has a variety of quaint tea rooms, restaurants and independent shops. Enjoy a stroll along the promenade with its brightly painted beach huts, ornamental gardens and cafés, or wander down to the coble landing, with its fishing boats and seafood stalls. The Sycamores offers easy access to the Cleveland Way, which is a 109 mile footpath across the moors and along the coast of the North York Moors, with many interesting sites and historical buildings to enjoy on the way. A visit to this area would not be complete without a walk to the nearby Flamborough headlands or an afternoon at the Bempton RSPB Reserve.
