This cottage is situated on an organic farm, in the grounds of the owner’s home, midway between Gloucester and the Forest of Dean on the A4136 giving access by car to the main tourist attractions. This single storey detached cottage offers a great base to explore the delights of the surrounding areas. In front of the cottage is a small well-protected patio and beyond that the farmland extends up towards Huntley Hill. There are sheep and cattle quietly grazing and footpaths in several directions.
Golfing, fishing, riding and cycle hire can all be found within the Forest of Dean. Access is via your own enclosed courtyard with patio furniture; great for enjoying the sight of the visiting red kites when they come to be regularly fed by a neighbour. Inside, the open plan living, dining and kitchen is comfortably furnished and well equipped. Leading off is a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room and toilet.
The nearby village of Llangeitho has a shop and café, great for a cooked breakfast or a snack and suitable for all the day to day essentials, as well as a friendly pub serving home cooked food. The area is abundant with walks and cycle routes (plenty starting from the cottage) and mountain biking opportunities. The market town of Tregaron is 3 miles away and was once a very strategic point for taking animals from the farms in West Wales to markets in England. Before railways, it is said around 30,000 animals were escorted overland on drovers roads through the Cambrian Mountains. Today it’s still a small thriving rural town and is a ’Walkers are Welcome’ town; the annual walking festival held in May is a firm favourite on the walking calendar.
Competitors and visitors come from all over the UK and Ireland for the annual horse trotting and carriage racing too. With independent shops, the Rhiannon Welsh Gold Centre, and an award winning restaurant and pub it’s well worth a visit. Just a mile beyond, you will find the stunning Cors Caron Nature Reserve, over 2000 acres of finest raised bog system with an access-friendly boardwalk route through it. Visit the ruins of the 12th century Cistercian abbey at Strata Florida and of course explore the Cambrian Mountains by road, cycle or foot. A variety of guided walking tours are available via local organisers. A 30-minute drive will bring you to the fantastic Ceredigion coastline where you will find beaches (many dog friendly all year round), dolphin-watching boat trips and the towns of Aberystwyth with its cliff railway, pier and long promenade, plus it is home to one of Wales’ most picturesque steam train journeys through the valley over to Devil’s Bridge. Visit the attractive and colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron, famous for its honey ice cream or and quaint fishing town New Quay, both are great places to go for restaurants, shops, boat rides, and dolphin spotting. Wylies Brae is a lovely little cottage in the heart of the village, a hugely popular area for walkers and cyclists. Wylies Brae is peacefully set just off the Main Street and has been modernised in 2020 with a newly fitted kitchen and the cosy living room has a lovely wood burning stove.
New Galloway is a quaint little village with a village shop, excellent coffee shops and the Catstrand, an Arts and Information Centre and a theatre.
Wylies Brae is an excellent base from which to explore the area and where better to start than the Galloway Forest Park, the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, where you can marvel at the most amazing starry night skies.
For a great day out at any time of year explore the Galloway Glens and picturesque forest trails or for the more adventurous exhilarating mountain biking as the park is home to two of the world famous 7stanes mountain bike trails at Kirroughtree and Glentrool.
