This is a great choice for families as well as friends looking to explore the historic coastal town of Scarborough, which has been delighting visitors for hundreds of years. Set over three floors, this property is a great size.

At the back of the property, there is an enclosed patio area with a seating area as well as a lockable shed which can be used for cycle storage, or for other outdoor equipment such as paddle boards. The property is perfect for a car-free holiday as everything is within walking distance. The cemetery at the end of the road is also ideal for quick dog walks.

The front garden is lawned with a heated summer house where you can soak up the beauty of the garden as you watch the world pass by. At the rear of the property, you have an enclosed yard with a picnic bench and a BBQ.

Scalby is a village on the outskirts of Scarborough and on the road to Whitby. This pretty village has a general store, a couple of traditional pubs and you are just over the road from a lovely, friendly café, making it a good location for a meal or a social evening when staying on holiday. Scalby Beck runs along the edge of the village down towards the sea, offering picturesque rural views and is perfect for dog walking, especially if your dog enjoys a swim. As well as a Methodist chapel, there is St Laurence’s Church, a Grade II listed building dating back to 1150AD, it is the oldest recorded building in the village. There are tennis courts, a bowling green and playing fields for cricket and football. There is a regular bus service linking the village to Scarborough and Whitby.
For the more energetic, take the Cinder Track either on foot or by bike, and enjoy the stunning coastal views along the way. Scalby is also on the route of the Tabular Hills Walk, which links Scarborough to the market town of Helmsley on the western side of the North York Moors National Park. There are many activities and attractions in the area. Dalby Forest has world cup mountain bike trails, Go Ape tree adventure and nature walks. The RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs is worth a visit and is home to thousands of sea birds nesting precariously on the cliff face. Keen birdwatchers can see kittiwakes, gannets and puffins, and offshore porpoises and grey seals can be spotted.
Scarborough is just a 10-minute drive away where you have the castle overlooking the wide sweeping beaches, and Peasholm Park with oriental gardens, an open-air theatre and paddle boats. There is also the Alpamare waterpark and spa, where in an evening you can soak in the steaming pools outside while watching the stars. Traditional seaside resorts can easily be reached including Whitby, famous for its fish and chips and cliff top abbey ruins. Also worth a visit are the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay. Further inland, the medieval city of York can be reached in around an hour. Beach 2½ miles. Arklow Cottage can be found on a quiet side street just a few hundred yards from Scarborough Spa’s Cliff lift, which provides access down to the famous South Beach in the traditional Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough.
This well presented cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy a seaside break. Step inside and delight in the large open plan living/dining room. Unwind on an evening on one of the two deep filled sofas which surround a wall mounted contemporary electric fire. Enjoy a Netflix movie or a fun board game, of which several are available to choose from. The dining table provides plenty of seating and is the perfect place to gather for a family breakfast or a delicious home cooked meal on an evening. The kitchen is bright and airy and provides plenty of worktop space. A door leads out to the enclosed courtyard which catches the afternoon sun. A well placed seating area provides a private spot to enjoy an early morning coffee or a glass or two of wine on an evening. Take the stairs to the first floor and find two bedrooms, one with two single beds which can be joined via a bed bridge to make a large kingsize bed, the second bedroom has both a double and single bed. Both rooms offer a relaxing ambiance with cosy soft furnishings and deep filled mattresses. The house bathroom completes the accommodation.
Step outside and within short walk, you will find putting green, Italian Gardens and Rose Gardens. A lift ride, will bring you down onto South Beach, one of Scarborough’s two beaches, the South beach provides rock pooling opportunities at low tide. For those who enjoy walking the Cleveland Way passes just yards away from the front door. Scarborough is overlooked by a magnificent medieval castle and offers something for everyone from an outside theatre, water park, amusements arcades, Sea Life Centre and a working harbour. For a quiet few hours take a walk in the Japanese themed Peaseholm Park; home to landscaped gardens and a pretty lake where you can hire a boat or canoe for a few hours.
