The property is just 3 miles from Mintlaw, home to Aden Country Park covering 230 acres. Recognised as one of Scotland’s top green spaces, the park is a popular spot for walkers, cyclists and families thanks to its picturesque surroundings and busy events calendar. Mintlaw hosts a wide variety of amenities including pub, takeaways and local supermarket.

8 miles to the east is Cruden Bay, which has a sweeping expanse of pink sands and dunes approximately 1½ miles in length. This sandy beach is popular with day trippers, water sports enthusiasts and for sea fishing. Here you can also visit the remains of Slains Castle, once a place where celebrities were entertained on numerous occasions in the 19th Century. One of the most notable guests was Bram Stoker and it is believed the castle is the inspiration for the setting of ’Count Dracula’. 14 miles south of Torreagles is Newburgh beach, home to a colony of around 400 seals, adjacent to which are Forvie Nature Reserve and Foveran Links, a site of special scientific interest.

Golfers will appreciate numerous challenging courses less than a half hour’s drive from the property, including three of Scotland’s top twenty championship courses, Cruden Bay Golf Club, Trump International Golf Links and Royal Aberdeen Golf Club. The area has plenty to explore including a walk along St Combs Bay just 2½ miles down the road. Just yards from the seashore in the quaint fishing village of Cairnbulg, this fully renovated, detached fisherman’s cottage is a haven of relaxation. Just a very short walk to the seashore, the quiet streets, narrow alleys, and rows of cottages can easily carry you back to a very different time when every cottage had a boat pulled up, and the entire community made use of the seashore washing lines to dry their laundry.The nearby Inverallochy Golf Club, with its backdrop of rolling dunes, rocky shores, and beautiful beaches (there is a sea view from every hole), is a challenge for any golfer.
For those without clubs, take the 6km walk from the harbour through the village to Whitelinks Bay, before returning behind the course. Visit Maggie’s Hoose at the end of the street, a mini museum chronicling life in a traditional ‘but n’ ben’ fisherman’s cottage. Take a trip south along the coast through St Combs and visit the RSPB reserve at Loch of Strathbeg and beyond to one of the best stretches of beach in the country. Inland, the castle trail takes you through the heart of Aberdeenshire with some fine examples well worth a visit. Collieston Beach is sheltered from the North Sea by Collieston Pier, and this sandy beach is perfect for families and children. The nearby ’Smugglers Cone’ shop serves delicious ice cream, drinks and snacks. Collieston is a former fishing village that provides dramatic views all year round. Just 5 miles away are Newburgh and Cruden Bay golf courses. The Oldmeldrum distillery, Slains castle, Petehead Prison Museum and of course the Forvie Nature Reserve and Seal colony at Newburgh are other places of interest.

There are a number of amazing beaches to visit nearby, including Cruden Bay, Newburgh and Balmedie to name but a few, all within 10 miles! Sitting right on the harbour front in the quaint fishing village of Johnshaven, this immaculate and newly renovated fisherman’s cottage has, as its name suggests, wonderful views over this picturesque harbour. The interior is warm and welcoming, with a calming and tasteful décor, comfortable beds and cosy wood burner in the living room.
Situated in the heart of the village, there is a wonderful restaurant next door serving local produce as well as a brilliant Lobster Shop, serving crab, lobster and all manner of lovely seafood. Johnshaven is a delight; lobster creels sit at the side of the harbour where you can sit and watch the comings and goings of the boats or take a stroll around the narrow streets.
Further up the coast, the popular market town of Stonehaven with its own outdoor heated pool, and Dunnottar Castle is well worth a visit while south Montrose, has clean sandy beaches, golf courses and other leisure activities. There is easy access to the Angus Glens from here, through rolling countryside of the Mearns or alternatively travel on the Victorian Heritage Trail, through Edzell and Fettercairn towards Banchory, over the scenic Cairn O’ Mount road. Wildlife is here in abundance, with osprey, otters and many wading birds spotted at the mouth of the River Esk, leading to the sea. River fishing is available by arrangement on the North Esk, while, inland, there is excellent walking in the five Angus Glens, with routes for hillwalkers and ramblers alike. Greve Cottage is just 2½ miles from St Cyrus, 4 miles north of the bustling seaside town of Montrose and 30 miles south of Aberdeen. Dunnottar Castle, Glamis Castle, the House of Dun and Fettercairn Distillery are worth a visit or alternatively take the Cairn o’ Mount Road to Royal Deeside, which winds through glorious scenery.

The The Windowky is set out over two floors and is perfect for a romantic retreat. Being one of only a few seafront properties with a private front garden and seating area looking out to the ocean, this is simply a must visit.
Gardenstown is a traditional fishing village built on the hillside. This means there are steps in the village and there are some shallow stairs up to the property which may not be suitable if you have mobility issues. There is parking available in the public car area just outside the property at the end of the walkway. There are also plenty spots around the town. Gardenstown oozes charm and tranquillity. The small winding streets, picturesque harbour and old stone fisherman’s cottages seem untouched by time. It truly is the quintessential fishing village.

Peterhead is 15 miles south from the property and was once a thriving fishing town well known for its red granite and has an award-winning beach.
