Still part of the farm but located 4 miles away is Osprey Cottage (ref UZQ), a delightful, light and sunny, single-storey detached cottage.
Set amongst beautiful farmland and fruit-growing country, they make an excellent choice for relaxing breaks in the heart of rural Perthshire. The estate makes an ideal base for exploring central Scotland, Edinburgh, Perth, St Andrews and the Highlands. Glamis Castle is a few miles away. Dundee has plenty of shopping and other excellent leisure facilities including Discovery Point, a 5-star visitor attraction chronicling Captain Scott’s journey to the Antarctic on the research ship ‘Discovery’. Other interesting days out could include the V&A Museum, an excellent museum of art and design, hill walking in one of the five Angus Glens with their stunning hill and loch scenery approximately an hour’s drive away, golf at one of the many other superb courses in the area, horse riding, fishing, skiing at Glenshee and sailing. At the heart of Glenprosen, one of the renowned ‘Glens of Angus’, lies the Balnaboth Estate on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park; 6,000 peaceful and secluded acres surrounding 16th-century Balnaboth House. In its midst, these six characterful holiday cottages each offer a unique and magical holiday retreat; indeed the creator of Peter Pan himself (Sir James Barrie) was born in nearby Kirriemuir and holidayed here.

These cottages were once occupied by shepherds, gardeners or other staff of the Ogilvy family when this was a traditional Victorian sporting estate. Red squirrels play in the trees, otters frequent the burns, and deer graze all around. Because of the varied scenery, that varies from beech woods to forest, pasture to heather moor, mountain streams to river pools, the area enjoys a spectacular range of wildlife, including species largely extinct elsewhere in Britain, such as black game and ptarmigan.
Magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking and (in season) cross-country skiing abound on the estate and, further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Fishing is available on a 5-mile stretch of the River Prosen, and there are twenty golf courses within an hours’ drive.

Superb beaches can be found at Montrose and Lunan Bay, just a short drive away, and the Pictish Stones are nearby for which the area is renowned. Glamis Castle is well worth a visit and offers a selection of events throughout the year, whilst Arbroath is of course home to the Arbroath Smokie, so you can sample the real thing during your visit. Travel the length of the Victorian Heritage Trail, passing through Fettercairn with its Gothic Arch and local distillery (where tours can be taken) up through Cairn o’ Mount and into Royal Deeside, ending at Balmoral Castle, or spend relaxing days at the fine sandy beaches at St Cyrus, Lunan Bay and Montrose. There is ample fishing and golf in the area as well as some good eating places, or why not visit some of the stately homes including Glamis Castle. Alternatively travel a little further afield to St Andrews, Dundee or Perth for culture and visitor attractions including the V & A and RSS Discovery.

The property is ideal for couples or a small family who are looking for a comfortable base from which to explore this area. Montrose is a pleasant market town with lots of interesting avenues and closes, many of which have a story to tell about the history of the place.
Situated halfway between Dundee and Aberdeen it is an ideal place to make the most of the diverse attractions of the east coast. The town itself boasts a wonderful sandy beach with a great children’s play area and the wide links between the coast and the town are the setting for its two good golf courses. Sitting on the edge of the Montrose Basin, an almost enclosed estuary of the River Esk which flows out through the bustling harbour to the sea, it is renowned for its wildlife centre. Every autumn, watch the stunning spectacle of thousands of pink footed geese arriving from Scandinavia to spend the winter here. For the more energetic, there is a great cycle path network in the area allowing visitors to explore the countryside. For walking enthusiasts the 5 Glens of Esk, Clova, Glenisla, Glenprosen and Glen Lethnot are within very easy reach; all have their own magic.
