Islabank Farmhouse (ref SAAP) is a traditional, characterful, comfortable farmhouse which is ideal for families. Curlew Cottage (ref SYYJ) is a charming, beautifully converted, detached, single-storey property and a haven for wildlife. Still part of the farm but located 4 miles away is Osprey Cottage (ref UZQ), a delightful, light and sunny, single-storey detached cottage.
Set amongst beautiful farmland and fruit-growing country, they make an excellent choice for relaxing breaks in the heart of rural Perthshire. The estate makes an ideal base for exploring central Scotland, Edinburgh, Perth, St Andrews and the Highlands. Glamis Castle is a few miles away. Dundee has plenty of shopping and other excellent leisure facilities including Discovery Point, a 5-star visitor attraction chronicling Captain Scott’s journey to the Antarctic on the research ship ‘Discovery’. Other interesting days out could include the V&A Museum, an excellent museum of art and design, hill walking in one of the five Angus Glens with their stunning hill and loch scenery approximately an hour’s drive away, golf at one of the many other superb courses in the area, horse riding, fishing, skiing at Glenshee and sailing. Superb beaches can be found at Montrose and Lunan Bay, just a short drive away, and the Pictish Stones are nearby for which the area is renowned. Glamis Castle is well worth a visit and offers a selection of events throughout the year, whilst Arbroath is of course home to the Arbroath Smokie, so you can sample the real thing during your visit. This gorgeous, detached, whitewashed cottage is located in the tiny hamlet of Bridgend of Lintrathen, near the shore of the Loch of Lintrathen – a stunning and picturesque body of freshwater, in the heart of rural Angus. The well-equipped kitchen opens onto a delightful, enclosed rear garden with a fabulous hot tub set on a raised covered deck. Enjoy an al fresco meal prepared on the barbecue while relaxing on a sunny afternoon. Lovers of coffee and glorious homemade food are equally well catered for, the cottage being in walking distance from one of Angus’ hidden treasures, the owner’s café, perfect for coffees, lunches and cakes, ideal after a leisurely walk round the loch.
Lintrathen is host to a plethora of wildlife including otters, ospreys, wildfowl and breeding songbirds, with observation hides sited round the loch. There is fishing, with permits available from the local angling club and there are numerous walks and cycle trails in the surrounding area. Dundee is only a short drive away, with the V&A design museum, the RSS Discovery ship and Verdant Works, a restored mill housing interactive displays, all of which are must-see excursions to the city. There are golf courses abound in the area and hillwalkers are well catered for in the surrounding countryside. The Cairngorms National Park, the Malt Whisky Trail and the ski centre at Glenshee are all within easy reach, offering a wide range of activities whatever the weather and time of year. This delightful bungalow sits in a wonderful sunny position in the village of Panbride on the outskirts of Carnoustie. Plenty of cycle paths run along the shore line just a short distance from the property, and there are many walking opportunities along the coastal path or inland in one of the five Angus Glens.
Carnoustie itself has much to offer the visitor aside from golf (the famous course is a short distance away, with another three nearby), with a sandy beach, tennis courts, putting and parks, not to mention shops, eating places and cafés all within easy reach of the house.
An ideal place for touring, the cities of Dundee, Perth and Aberdeen are all within striking distance for enjoyable days out and can all be reached by rail from the town itself. Alternatively, meander up the coast towards Montrose where small fishing communities can be found strung out along the rugged coastline. The historic port of Arbroath is just 5 miles away where you can buy fresh and smoked fish daily. A golfers paradise, as well as the famous championship course there are many other golf courses in the area – St Andrews is within a short drive of the town. The area has much else to offer including excellent beaches and a large selection of castles and country houses, notably Glamis Castle.

Travel the length of the Victorian Heritage Trail, passing through Fettercairn with its Gothic Arch and local distillery (where tours can be taken) up through Cairn o’ Mount and into Royal Deeside, ending at Balmoral Castle, or spend relaxing days at the fine sandy beaches at St Cyrus, Lunan Bay and Montrose. There is ample fishing and golf in the area as well as some good eating places, or why not visit some of the stately homes including Glamis Castle. Alternatively travel a little further afield to St Andrews, Dundee or Perth for culture and visitor attractions including the V & A and RSS Discovery.

Druid’s Knowe sits in a superb position on the outskirts of the little hamlet of Tarfside, in the heart of Glen Esk.
Surrounded by gorgeous scenery this wonderful house has been totally and sympathetically refurbished and modernised right down to the last detail, but still retaining its original character. Just along from the house is Glenesk Retreat and Folk Museum, gift shop and an art gallery. The museum is dedicated to the heritage, history and culture of Glenesk and focuses on the life of the rural community. This gorgeous property oozes style – an elegant townhouse with tasteful furnishings makes a wonderful base to explore this lovely part of Scotland. The cosy lounge has a door which opens onto a shared enclosed garden, and the two bedrooms, one on each floor, are very comfortable places to rest after a busy day out exploring.
In a great position, with the Mid Links Park across the road to the front and a short walk to Montrose’s magnificent sandy beach this is a great choice if you do not want to drive everywhere. The High Street is an easy stroll with shops and eateries and there are good tennis courts and bowling greens again within walking distance. The magnificent sandy beach, golf courses and links area are very popular with tourists and there are plenty of good cycle routes around the house and throughout the area. For aviation and military enthusiasts, a visit to Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre is an absolute ‘must’, which showcases the fascinating and pioneering history of the first military airfield to be established in Great Britain.
Further afield, there are many attractions and places of interest. If you enjoy walking, whether it be through the glens or along the coast, then this area does not disappoint, with many trails available nearby. The cities of Dundee and Aberdeen are around 30-40 minutes’ drive, with many cultural attractions including the V & A Museum, theatres, shops and leisure activities in abundance. Beach 800 yards.
