The conservatory and patio area are ideal for relaxing in with a glass of wine after a long day exploring the local area. Close to beautiful sandy beaches of St Monans, Pittenweem, Crail and Anstruther, there is no shortage of hill walks, bridle paths and cycle tracks. Kellie Castle, with its beautiful walled garden, is within a mile and the historic university town of St Andrews, with its world famous championship golf courses, is only 8 miles away, together with many other local golf courses in the area, making this an ideal location for a golfing holiday. The Old Smithy is a truly unique, traditional, stone built terraced cottage right in the heart of the picturesque coastal town of Anstruther. It has been completely renovated into a welcoming holiday home, yet maintains the traditional character of the building and has incorporated modern and contemporary living style. Guests will find a spacious open plan living area with cosy sofas where you can relax and unwind, and a contemporary kitchen area fitted with good quality appliances and everything you will need to prepare a family meal. There are two double bedrooms on the first floor which overlook the living space and have sliding oak doors for privacy. There is also a shower room with a walk-in shower.

The harbour and port of Anstruther has a long and interesting history linked to The Old Smithy, and part of the building was built before 1730 and over time has been a stable, smithy and harbour store. It is located on Wightmans Wynd, which was named after Charles Wightman, a wealthy merchant and smuggler in the 1700’s and also a Jacobite sympathiser. He provided sanctuary for survivors from Culloden in the cellars adjacent to The Old Smithy. The building fell into disrepair, but in 2009 and due to its unique location and as a listed building, an architect took on the challenge of redesigning the cottage and won the Green Apple Award for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage in 2013.

With a sandy beach and most amenities just a minute from the door, this is a perfect location for a couple(s), friends or a small family who are looking to enjoy a seaside holiday or a walking, golfing or sightseeing break. Anstruther has much to do and many eateries to suit all tastes, from award-winning fish and chip shops to a Michelin star restaurant, as well as lots of cafés, traditional inns, ice cream shops, bakeries, gift shops and galleries. The working harbour has fishing boats as well as leisure crafts, including seasonal boat trips to the Isle of May (a national nature reserve). The old lanes and streets are interesting to explore on foot.

Follow the Fife Coastal Path that literally passes the front door and leads in either direction to secluded coves, little fishing villages and white sandy beaches. For exploring further afield, St Andrews is only 9 miles away and makes a great day out with excellent shopping facilities as well as lots of restaurants, pubs and bistros. Famous for being the home of golf, lovers of the sport will enjoy visiting the British Golf Museum or playing on one of the championship courses. The Doocot is the latest renovation at East Neuk Orchards. This stunning accommodation has been completed to a high standard; it truly is impressive. The space, the light, the artwork and the quality of bespoke finishings will make you feel welcome and at home. This incredible building has been transformed from an historic, semi-derelict and very unusual three story doocot (dovecot) into a beautiful, modern single bedroom holiday house. With minimal intervention the original nesting boxes have been lovingly preserved and many of timber surfaces have been created using planks from a single, local fallen and dried elm tree.
