Bramble Cottage is a deceptively spacious, semi-detached, single-storey cottage situated in the very heart of the popular seaside town of Leven, with the owner living next door. Built in 1900 as the local shop and post office, the cottage has under gone a full renovation to provide contemporary, good quality, self-catering, holiday accommodation suitable for a couple. If you would like to arrive at this lovely cottage with a bottle of whisky, prosecco or groceries waiting in the fridge, this can be supplied by prior arrangement with the owner, at cost.

Ideal for a seaside break, from your front door you are just minutes’ walk to the long sandy beach and promenade with great views over the Firth of Forth to the East Lothian coast. The promenade provides activities to suit all with amusement arcades, putting green, crazy golf, play areas, festival gardens park, Leven leisure pool and regular events including the Summer Prom Festival with live music. The local shops, cafés, bars and restaurants are all within a short walk. For guests who enjoy walking, Letham Glen and Silverburn offer woodland walks and the Fife Coastal Path passes through the town and is ideal for exploring the coast on foot, discovering the picturesque fishing villages and beautiful sandy beaches and coves.
A great location for golfers of all abilities with 3 courses within walking distance, including Leven Links Course, which is the qualifying course when the Open is played at St Andrews. There are numerous other excellent courses close by and the home of golf, St Andrews, is only 10 miles away. St Andrews make a great day out with excellent shopping facilities as well as good quality restaurants, pubs, bistros and an aquarium. There are many historic buildings to visit both the city centre and in the surrounding area, and a climb to the top of the tower of the medieval cathedral provides a super view of the area.There is a regular bus service to St Andrews just across the road and the local bus station provides services to Kirkcaldy and the surrounding towns. For keen cyclists, the Millennium Cycle Way runs through central Fife, with miles of quiet country roads, disused railways and forest tracks to explore. Just a little further along the coast is the bustling tourist harbour town of Anstruther and there are daily ferries and boat trips leaving between April and September that take you to the Isle of May, which is a National Nature Reserve. It is home to colonies of sea birds including puffins and the surrounding waters are the habitat of seal colonies. St Andrews is just 10 miles away and is well worth a visit with historic buildings, Sea Life Centre, boutique shops, and a wide range of bars and restaurants. Upper Largo is dominated by Largo Law, the highest hill in the region and the cottage benefits from great views of Largo Law from its fully enclosed rear garden. Access to the path up Largo Law is yards away from the front door for those who have the stamina to climb to the top in order to take in the great views of East Fife, the Firth of Forth and the Lothians. The village itself has a restaurant, a short walk from the cottage, and is steeped in history with the historic church being the focal point of the village. Many walks radiate from the village and the beach at Lower Largo, Robinson Crusoe’s birthplace, is a 20-minute walk away via a number of local footpaths which also give access to the Fife Coastal Path.

The local area is noted for its wide sandy beaches interspersed by rocky headlands, the depth of its history, ranging from Falkland Palace, a favourite of Mary Queen of Scots, to the Secret Bunker which highlights the part played by Fife during the cold war and the breadth of its culinary and produce offerings with Michelin starred restaurants complemented by award winning fish and chip shops as well as numerous farm shops and farmers markets showcasing the best produce Fife and Scotland has to offer. Step out into the garden with its terrace and seating, and enjoy your morning coffee whilst listening to the wild birds. There are the grounds to explore, but you will need your boots as are there are no footpaths.

Perfect for walkers and cyclists, there are many quiet roads and paths to explore. Kellie Castle and gardens with its tea room makes for a great walk, and is about 1½ miles away. This is a super location for spotting wildlife, and nearby Gillingshill Reservoir has a variety of water fowl, including coots, little grebes and swans. Look out for rare green sandpipers during the migration season, and in late summer the air is filled with dragonflies and damselflies. The woodland also hosts a multitude of wild flowers in spring.

Four miles away is the magical old harbour village of Pittenween which oozes charm. There is a working harbour where you can watch the boats landing their catch and purchase freshly caught fish for your supper. If you would like to catch your own, fishing is available from the piers in St Monans, Pittenweem and Anstruther. Wander around the old lanes with their coffee shops or visit the harbourside ice cream shop for refreshments. For a walk along the shore, the Fife Coastal Path follows the coast to old fishing villages, pretty coves and sandy beaches where lots of sea life is visible from the shore.

This area is steeped in history and there are many historic buildings, castles and gardens to visit, namely Kellie Castle, which makes for a great day out and dates back to the 1300. There are numerous visitor attractions and whisky distilleries including Kingsbarns Distillery offering tours.
For guests who enjoy walking, the Fife Coastal Path is easily accessible from the cottage, you can walk various sections of the coastal path and catch the coast bus back to the bus stop which is 200 yards from the cottage. For days out, along the coast is the bustling tourist harbour town of Anstruther offering a great selection eateries, from a Michelin Star restaurant to award-winning fish and chip shops. From the harbour front there are daily ferries and boat trips, between April and September, departing to the Isle of May Nature Reserve, home to colonies of sea birds such as puffins, and the surrounding waters are the habitat of seal colonies.
