Situated on the harbour front in Pittenweem, one of the prettiest fishing ports in Fife, Harbour Apartment is a first floor cosy apartment with spectacular views over the harbour, Bass Rock, Isle of May and Firth of Forth. Explore the quaint lanes of this picturesque village or visit St Fillan’s Cave, with its holy well, which at one time was used by smugglers. This charming, bijou, terraced cottage with a red pantile roof, dating back to 1780 when it was a weavers cottage, is located in the centre of the historic picturesque village of Ceres. Well Cottage has been thoughtfully furnished for comfort and ease, and is the perfect location for a relaxing retreat for a couple. There are excellent cycling and footpaths from the cottage door and the Fife Folk Museum is across the road, as well as the village green. This conservation village has a good pub and a hotel serving food, tea rooms, an antique shop, a family butchers, village store and the renowned Wemyss Ware Pottery. Scotland’s oldest highland games are held on the last Saturday in June. The picture-postcard East Neuk of Fife with fishing villages and sandy beaches are within easy driving distance, and St Andrews is only seven miles away and well worth a visit. This area is renowned for its golf, with a multitude of excellent courses within easy reach. Trout fishing is available locally (licence required). Renovated in 2018 to a very good standard, Arc House is a bright and spacious first and second floor apartment with rooftop views towards the sea. The first floor has a handy utility room with a washing machine and sink where guests can keep their outdoor gear and buckets and spades, a family bathroom and three comfortable bedrooms all with televisions. The second floor has a super open-plan living area, which is light and spacious, with a superbly fitted kitchen with a dual fuel range cooker. The living area has a cosy 6-seater sofa and is the ideal place to relax after a day by the sea. From the Velux windows, there is a roof top view towards Pittenweem and Largo Law. The property dates back to 1877, and the street is named after Captain Rodger, owner of the clipper ship, Taeping. The East Neuk of Fife has a long seafaring history and the Fisheries Museum tells the story of the area.

Just a short stroll from Arc House you can explore the old wynds and lanes leading down to the seafront in the picturesque fishing village of Cellardyke, with a sandy beach and old harbour. There is a water sports centre with sea kayaking and open canoeing available for you to explore the shore line with expert tuition. The Fife Coastal Path can be joined here, and in either direction you can enjoy fantastic coastal views over the Firth of Forth and which takes you to pretty fishing villages, secluded coves and white sandy beaches.

Anstruther is just a 5-minute walk away with its working harbour, local pubs, seafront coffee shops, fish and chip shops, galleries and shops. From April to September there are daily ferries and boat trips leaving from Anstruther that take you to the Isle of May, which is a National Nature Reserve and home to colonies of sea birds, including puffins. This fabulous, semi-detached stone building, complete with a red pantile roof, is a great location for a family holiday, celebration or for friends to spend time together is rural Fife, just minutes’ drive to the seaside, in the grounds of the owners home. The Barracks @ East Neuk Orchards is a spacious and welcoming holiday home just ozzing character and charm. With views over the countryside down to the sea, the spacious and welcoming living room has a feature fire place with an open fire and makes the ideal hub for everyone to gather together.

This wonderful abode has an interesting history. The ground floor of the property predates 1750, being originally part of a larger estate and later extended upwards. Further farm buildings and accommodation were constructed forming a traditional courtyard with a very untraditional but historic dovecot. The Barracks was named because the building was used as a billet for British and Polish officers during WW2. During the 1970s the barracks accommodation was converted into a single residence and the two original front doors were turned into French windows. The upstairs drawing room fireplace was refitted with a chimney piece from old Montrave House. The upstairs toilet also has mahogany fittings rescued from an old house in St Andrews. This imaginative conversion and redecoration provides an excellent standard of accommodation for guests whilst maintaining the original and character and charm.

There are the grounds to explore, but you will need your boots as are there are no footpaths. Perfect for walkers and cyclists, there are many quiet roads and paths to explore. Kellie Castle and gardens with its tea room makes for a great walk, and is about 1½ miles away. This is a super location for spotting wildlife, and nearby Gillingshill Reservoir has a variety of water fowl, including coots, little grebes and swans. Look out for rare green sandpipers during the migration season, and in late summer the air is filled with dragonflies and damselflies. The woodland also hosts a multitude of wild flowers in spring.

Four miles away is the magical old harbour village of Pittenween which oozes charm. There is a working harbour where you can watch the boats landing their catch and purchase freshly caught fish for your supper. If you would like to catch your own, fishing is available from the piers in St Monans, Pittenweem and Anstruther. Wander around the old lanes with their coffee shops or visit the harbourside ice cream shop for refreshments. For a walk along the shore, the Fife Coastal Path follows the coast to old fishing villages, pretty coves and sandy beaches where lots of sea life is visible from the shore.
