Set in the heart of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, The Stables and The Ploughmans are cottages which have been thoughtfully converted from farm buildings using the original old stone and set within an attractive courtyard next to the farm house. Set on a working farm with cattle and sheep, the owner will arrange a private tour of a modern day dairy for guests, by prior arrangement. If you enjoy fishing then complimentary permits are available (by prior arrangement) on the owners private stretch of Endrick River nearby.
If you enjoy outdoor activities, there is walking, cycling, golf, fishing, pony trekking and water sports nearby, as well the Rob Roy Way and Cycle Track 7, both of which pass close by making this a perfect location for nature lovers to explore one of Scotland’s most picturesque areas with lochs, mountains and spectacular scenery. The Trossachs Discovery Centre is well worth a visit where you can learn more about this exciting area, there are cruise trips on both Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine. In the surrounding area there are some excellent places for food and drink, the famous Nick Nairn Cook School is only 10 minutes’ drive, there are several whisky distilleries within 30 minutes’ drive and restaurants, cafés and farm shops. This area is steeped in history, Stirling is 18 miles away with its ancient castle, Wallace monument and Bannockburn Visitor Centre, along with many historic links to people such as Rob Roy Macgregor, William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots, all of whom had a part to play in the history of this area. There are lots of film locations to be visited within a short drive including Doune Castle which became the fictional Castle Leoch.
The Stables is a terraced cottage and provides easy access with a comfortable double bedroom and wet room on the ground floor. The spacious cosy living room has patio doors leading to the garden making it perfect for al fresco dining in the summer months or just relaxing and admiring the views. The large kitchen/dining room is well-equipped and all guests can comfortably sit around the table and plan their next day’s adventures. On the first floor there is a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, a twin bedroom and a large family bathroom with bath and shower cubicle.
The Ploughmans is ideal for a couple or a small family. On the ground floor there is a comfortable living room and French doors that lead into the well-kept garden, offering the perfect spot to sit, relax and enjoy the views, escaping from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There is an open plan kitchen/dining room where you can prepare that special meal. On the first floor there is a spacious double bedroom, a twin bedroom and family bathroom.

Aunties Sheila’s Cottage is perfect for a sociable holiday with its large cosy living room and plenty of comfortable seating, its wood burner is the hub of the cottage. The spacious open-plan kitchen/dining area leads off the living room and enjoys views of the rear garden, which has a charming small terrace at the front of the property to sit and enjoy the evening sun and the morning light. Comfortably sleeping 4-6 people with two spacious bedrooms upstairs and a study on the ground floor providing extra sleeping for two on a comfortable sofabed.
Conveniently situated within a 2-mile walk of the village of Killearn and about 3 miles from the village of Drymen, Auntie Sheila’s Cottage is well served for good pubs and eating places. Killearn has several places to eat and local convenience stores and Drymen offers a library, butcher, grocer, health centre, dentist, chemist, village pubs (including Scotland’s oldest licensed pub, The Clachan Inn), restaurants and two hotels, one with a leisure centre.
This pretty mid-terrace holiday cottage, which the owners have used for many years as their own holiday property, sits in the small hamlet of Gartness. It was originally built to house mill workers from Gartness Mill on the nearby river, Endrick Water. Situated near the start of the West Highland Way, it has fantastic views of the Campsie and Fintry Hills and is surrounded by unspoilt countryside. Affectionately named after the family member who originally owned it, Auntie Sheila’s Cottage is quiet and rural, yet equidistant between Glasgow and Stirling, both approximately 30 minutes away by car. Within a short drive, you can experience the delights of Aberfoyle, known as the ’Gateway to the Highlands’, walk along the shores of Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine, or explore the villages and lochs of the Trossachs. It’s ideal for walkers, with the West Highland Way passing the cottage, easy access to the nearby John Muir Way and close to the Campsie Fells and the Arrochar Alps, providing a wonderful holiday retreat and an ideal base for friends and family to spend time together.
You’ll love exploring the nearby Pots of Gartness, a series of rocky pools which provide a great place to watch salmon on their way up river to spawn and you’re close to the beautiful and mythical Finnich Glen which houses the Devil’s Pulpit, featured in the famous TV series ’Outlander’. For whisky lovers, the most southerly Highland malt whisky distillery, Glengoyne Distillery, is situated at nearby Dumgoyne. If you enjoy fishing, then permits for the Endrick River are available from the garage in the nearby village of Gartocharn, with fishing also available on the Lake of Menteith.

Elm Bank is a fantastic, large, three-bedroom, semi-detached house right in the heart of the picturesque village of Drymen. The village is located on the popular West Highland Way and forms the western end of the Rob Roy Way. The entrance to the house can be found to the side where three steps lead you into the house where you can either go up stairs to the first floor or down to the lower ground floor. As you head upstairs, at the top of the landing there is a lovely bright fully equipped kitchen, then turn left into a large dining room that comfortably seats eight people. This leads you to the living room with its Smart TV and wood burner. At the other end of the landing is a large, bright double bedroom with patio doors looking out on the garden. Downstairs is another large en-suite double room which leads out to the garden, through large patio doors, where you can sit and enjoy the long summer evenings. Along the hall is the main bathroom and a twin bedroom. There is a large, lawned, open garden at the back of the house with a nice seating area on one side and the neighbours’ garden on the other side.
Drymen is a great stop-over point with hikers and falls west of the stunning Campsie Fells. You can walk through The Queen Elizabeth Forest, which reaches down to the village edge and is part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The beautiful village green is surrounded by a couple of great pubs and some local village shops. You have everything you need on the doorstep for a relaxing and very enjoyable stay, including a lovely café/restaurant just across the road.
