Craigdarroch Cottage is a quaint, newly refurbished coachman’s cottage which dates back some 100 years. It is located in St Fillans in Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. St Fillans is a picturesque village in a tranquil location set on the banks of Loch Earn. The cottage is perfectly positioned for exploring the National Park and the Southern Highlands. Walking, biking, golfing, fishing, and water sports are among the many activities available. Several walks can be taken directly from the cottage; you can stroll along the old railway or venture into the surrounding mountains, both of which give you a stunning view of Loch Earn. There are ospreys on the loch and red squirrels in the nearby area, as well as deer and other wildlife. After a day in the Scottish countryside, you can relax in front of the wood burning stove in the cosy cottage with its loch view.

There are many golf courses to choose from the vicinity including the prestigious Gleneagles. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, and Stirling can all be reached by car within 1 hour 15 minutes.

A nature lover’s paradise, the lade trail offers a rare opportunity to glimpse beavers and otters which are regularly sighted. Other British birds include ospreys, herons, peregrine falcons, woodpeckers, owls and kingfishers, all frequent visitors to the area. The River Tay is of course one of the prime salmon fishing rivers and fishing may be available by arrangement directly with the owner. The area is also abundant in other rivers and lochs all offering outstanding but easily accessible trout and salmon fishing at very reasonable prices.

Of course, you don’t need to be a fisherman to enjoy this cottage. The immediate area has lots more to offer, with Perth itself offering plenty in the way of culture and shopping as well as good restaurants and cafes. St Andrews and Gleneagles, famous for their world-renowned golf courses, are an easy drive with other highly rated local golf courses nearby.

For a more leisurely day out, visit the pretty conservation village of Kenmore (5 miles) at the northern end of Loch Tay. There are water sports aplenty here such as sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, jet-biking, or if you prefer to stay on dry land fishing, pony trekking and golf. Good eateries and shops will complete a great day out. Aberfeldy is only a 20 minutes’ drive with local interesting independent shops, a supermarket, galleries, eating places, a community-run cinema and an award-winning book shop.
