Outdoor activities include golf on a wide range of courses ranging from St Andrews to the highest course in Scotland at Glenshee’s tiny 9 holes, climbing, hill walking, mountain biking on the local trails, bungee jumping, river and loch fishing, boating and winter sports at Glenshee where the chairlifts run all year from the Cairnwell Pass, Scotland’s highest road. The beautiful Victorian resort of Pitlochry is 12 miles away over the magnificent wilderness of the Moulin Moor and the traditional market town of Blairgowrie is 13 miles down the fertile Strathardle Valley. Both towns offer excellent shops, restaurants and leisure facilities including the world-famous Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Guests have shared use of the attractive garden at the front with open views over fields of corn towards the Angus Glens, but with your own sitting-out area. A walker’s paradise, these five glens offer both easy rambles and challenging climbs to suit all abilities. For a change of scenery, head east towards the coast where beautiful beaches, high cliffs and quiet coves can be found at Lunan Bay, or the Seaton Cliffs at Arbroath. There is plenty of culture to be found in nearby Dundee, 17 miles away, where the Victoria and Albert Museum is located, as well as the RRS Discovery and plenty of good shops and eateries. This is a fantastic area for golf enthusiasts with a selection of country courses in Alyth, Blairgowrie and Kirriemuir nearby, and the famous links course at Carnoustie, all an easy drive. Relax and enjoy a well-deserved break in this idyllic little semi-detached cottage. Set in the tiny hamlet of Kettins just 1½ miles from the market town of Coupar Angus, it is a pastoral delight, with whitewashed walls surrounded by attractive gardens. The row of cottages are set up a few steps from a tiny village green with a small stream meandering past. Inside, the cottage has been tastefully furnished and retains some original features including arched doorways, high ceilings and wooden floors, with a cosy open fire in the living room leading through to a small kitchen/dining room. At the back the sunny sheltered patio slopes upward to a lovely lawn and is perfect for alfresco meals.
A walkers and cyclists paradise there are plenty of waymarked paths through arable countryside of the Vale of Strathmore through Meigle, Ardler and Coupar Angus to the more challenging glens beyond Blairgowrie. Renowned for its soft fruit, there are plenty of good cafes and restaurants nearby showcasing local produce, and a good range of shops locally and further afield in Dundee and Perth. Glamis Castle, the childhood home of H.M Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and the Pictish Stone Museum are well worth a visit and the cottage is within half an hour of the Cairngorms National Park. The ski slopes at Glenshee are a short drive and Pitlochry is within easy reach. Golfers have plenty of courses to choose from including Rosemount and Carnoustie, or explore the clean sandy beaches strung out along the east coast. Beach 19 miles. The Victorian tourist town of Crieff is only 2 miles away and a good location for refreshments with quality places to eat and lots of cafés with home baking. There is a deli which specialises in local produce if you are planning to eat in and there are some interesting independent shops, galleries and craft shops. Crieff is an ideal all year round location to visit and holds regular events and activities including a monthly farmers market, Highland games, traditional Scottish music festival and the very popular Drovers Tryst Walking Festival. Gleneagles, St Andrews and Carnoustie are within an hour’s drive. Explore the many castles, stately homes and gardens nearby, including Glamis and Scone Palace. The cities of Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh are all within easy driving distance. Relax in the garden with a glass of wine after enjoying this beautiful area and all it has to offer. The Fair City of Perth is just 10 minutes away and offers excellent shopping and dining facilities as well as parks, cinema and theatre attractions. Other places to visit are Pitlochry 25 minutes, Dunkled 10 minutes with Aberfeldy being the furthest away 35 minutes.
Scone Palace and racecourse are 13 miles away and Edinburgh, St Andrews and Stirling an hour’s drive through stunning scenery. Little Harrowfield will make an excellent base from which to visit the surrounding countryside with its abundance of walks, cycling, fishing, golf and history. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
