Escape to this splendid detached barn conversion in rural Perthshire, which is just a short drive from Auchterarder with its 1½-mile long high street lined with a splendid selection of eateries and bespoke shopping. Woodend Farm Barn nestles close to the owner’s home on Woodend Farm, now a 10-acre smallholding where Highland cattle and sheep graze. It was built well before the railway line, which is spanned by two beautiful bridges on the edge of the farm garden.
For many years, the farm operated as an 80-acre pig farm, but in 1999, a 10-acre section was sold off and the new owners completely transformed it. The farmhouse remained, but many of the sheds were taken down to leave just a small section, which was turned into stables. When the current owners took over in 2009, the barn itself was initially used as a machinery store and then a lambing shed, the barn has now been converted into a holiday home with a private hot tub, where guests can relax in the evening with a glass of wine in hand.

Golf is well catered for, with the renowned Rosemount course just a 5-minute drive away. Gleneagles and St Andrews are further afield for those who like to really test their skills.

The area provides outdoor activities for all abilities, and if you prefer more strenuous activities, then mountains Ben Vorlich, Ben Chonzie and Ben Lawers provide excellent walking with water sports on Loch Earn and mountain biking. For the less energetic there are riverside walks along the banks of the River Earn and Turret. The area is also steeped in history with historic castles and monuments to visit. Famous for being in the TV show Outlander, Drummond Castle Garden is 2 miles away, as well as other locations seen in the show such as Doune Castle and Hopetoun House. Stirling, Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow are easily accessible for day trips. The attractive Highland village of Killin is within walking distance along a quiet pathway where you will find bars, cafés, bistros, restaurants, shops, a 9-hole golf course and the spectacular Falls Of Dochart. Killin plays host to events throughout the year including the Highland games and a fireworks display on New Year’s Eve.
This part of Scotland is steeped in history and legend. Acharn was once owned by the McNab clan and there are many other historic sites and buildings to visit close by including Finlarig Castle.
