There is nothing quite like this typical Scottish village which sits on the banks of the River Earn in Perthshire, about 6 miles from Crieff and the same distance from the lovely Loch Earn. About a century ago, a town house dating back to the 18th century burned to the ground in the centre of the village. Rennie Mackintosh was employed to rebuild this house, and this remarkable A-listed dwelling is now available for rent as a holiday retreat.
In the staircase’s stairwell is a photo of Mackintosh’s workbook, in his own handwriting, detailing his tenders for the work. As you enter the house from the street, you climb the panelled staircase to the front door. Located on this level is the living area with an open plan kitchen, leather suite, open fireplace and dining area. The kitchen features a fine Art Deco mirror over the original fireplace. In the front room, windows look out onto the nearby churchyard and river, which is only a minute’s walk away, and to the rear, across garden areas. There is a handy toilet on this level too. As this house is cute and quirky head downstairs to the lower level, where you will find two cosy snug double bedrooms (accessed by another Mackintosh staircase’ different from the ones you entered the property). One bedroom, with a lovely Mackintosh-style bed, has a cosy en-suite with a shower cubicle and toilet, and the second double bedroom has what looks like a wardrobe, which if you open, reveals a full size spa bath with shower over.

Cosy up in this charming semi-detached cottage in a marvellous secluded position on the outskirts of Pitlochry. The delightfully comfortable interior and extensive gardens have all you want for a relaxing holiday. Ideal for both couples or families there is a double bedroom and a second bedroom with a double and a single bed, for various sleeping options. The sitting room with its wood burner leads into a well-equipped kitchen with access to the raised garden. The views are marvellous from the decking and hot tub, towards Edradour and the hills beyond, while to the front of the house, a small sunroom leads onto a patio, which catches the afternoon sun.
On the Pitlochry Path network, the cottage is on the doorstep of the dramatic Black Spout Waterfall walk, on the Edradour Path, one of several woodland walks in the immediate vicinity. Explore the many walks through this beautiful area, with routes through nearby Moulin and into Pitlochry itself or through miles of woodland and along banks of lochs and rivers, or up the nearby mountains and hills, including Ben Vrackie. Pitlochry itself is just a few minutes drive and is a year-round destination with many attractions throughout the year. Visit Pitlochry Dam and the Fish Ladder, with an excellent exhibition downstairs, interactive models on how electricity is created and salmon swimming up the fish ladder itself.
The town is home to the Caledonia Etape, an 81-mile circular cycle challenge, which traverses some of the most beautiful parts of Highland Perthshire. In the autumn, the Enchanted Forest is a real spectacle and well worth seeing, while the famous Theatre in the Hills, Pitlochry Festival Theatre has productions throughout the year. There really is something for everyone here in this fantastic part of Perthshire!

Sidlaws is a wonderful first floor barn conversion set in the owners’ spacious grounds. Ideal for extended families who want a bit of space, the property is a combination of two first floor apartments, the first is accessed via an external staircase, and has two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower over bath and a lovely view over the garden from its balcony in the open plan living room/kitchen. The ski slopes at Glenshee are a short drive and Pitlochry is within easy reach. Golfers have plenty of courses to choose from including Rosemount and Carnoustie, or explore the clean sandy beaches strung out along the east coast.

After a busy day exploring the picturesque area or indulging in activities the cottage is the perfect place to return to with showroom standard bathrooms to get refreshed in, a well-equipped kitchen to refuel you, three bright and spacious bedrooms upstairs with ultra-cosy beds, Egyptian cotton bedlinen and blackout blinds/curtains to ensure a restful night’s sleep.

The delightful sitting room has a wood burning stove and deep, comfortable sofas, making it a cosy retreat for all seasons and especially during chilly winter evenings with a smart TV and Netflix.
The cottage is surrounded by stunning countryside which is famed for its natural beauty and has French doors leading to the gated garden just across the courtyard through which runs the Keltney Burn (small river), where you can sit and enjoy a barbeque on our Weber BBQ or have your meal on the garden table with a view over the flowing water. Not to be missed is the Fortingall Yew, at 5,000 years it is probably the oldest tree in Europe.
Interestingly, it was already ancient when the Romans came this way and legend has it that Fortingall was the birthplace of Pontius Pilate.

The area is ideal for numerous outdoor pursuits including fishing, golfing, walking, mountain biking and water sports (kayaking, rafting, canyoning). Low level, forest and mountain walks are virtually on the doorstep. Walkers can enjoy everything from level woodland strolls to the challenges of Glen Lyon, one of the loveliest of Scottish glens and teeming with wildlife, including the elusive capercaillie. Mountain bikers have Drummond Hill on the doorstep with miles of tracks whilst, for walkers, the famous nearby Schiehallion (one of many local Munros) can be reached within minutes.

An art déco cinema has a regular program of events running throughout the year and the town also hosts a farmers’ market and annual events such as the Etap Caledonia Cycle race and Highland games. Within a short drive you can experience the bustling tourist town of Pitlochry with it theatre, salmon ladder and tourist shops. This area of Highland Perthshire is well known for outdoor activities with white water rafting, fishing, golf, cycling and hill walking available nearby.
