This lovely warm and welcoming semi-detached holiday home is steeped in history and with parts dating back over 450 years, White Horse Cottage offers many original features such as beams (some low) and wooden window frames. Comfortably furnished, this delightful family cottage has a light and airy kitchen/dining room with large farmhouse style table seating 10 comfortably, a snug room with sofas, bean bags, Smart TV and a large living room with a wood burner. The spacious bedrooms are located on the first floor, some have beams. Outside is a large, lawned, enclosed garden with uninterrupted views across trees and through to the parkland of West Meon House, a cycle store for up to three bikes, plus private parking for three cars.
In a very convenient location, White Horse Cottage is within walking distance of several village amenities, including the award winning inn, The Thomas Lord, which is named after the founder of Lords cricket ground who is buried in the village churchyard. There is also a village shop, post office, café and a butchers, who won the Hampshire Life Butcher of the Year award in 2014. There are local buses to various destinations including Winchester and Petersfield.
In the heart of the South Downs National Park, this wonderful part of Hampshire provides direct access to miles of scenic walks across the Meon Valley, including the South Downs Way. Neighbouring East Meon, 3 miles, has a pretty church and good pubs. Within easy reach are the glorious South Downs, Queen Elizabeth Country Park, the naval city of Portsmouth with its historic dockyard, home to Nelson’s Victory and The Mary Rose, along with waterside dining, extensive designer shopping and ferry trips to the Isle of Wight. The ancient city of Winchester with its stunning cathedral and science centre, Southampton with its shopping centre and the New Forest with its extensive heathland walks, riding and cycling opportunities is approximately 40 minutes away. Historic Chichester with its cathedral and festival theatre, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, the Watercress steam train, Jane Austens’ House, Gilbert White’s house and Birdworld, Marwell Zoo and Peppa Pig World are all easily accessible from White Horse Cottage and fishing is available nearby. London is about an hour by train from nearby Petersfield. Beach 20 miles. Shop, post office, pub and cafe 100 yards.

Situated at the end of a lane, Pepper Pot Cottage is the middle section of a Grade II listed building in a beautiful quiet area of the South Downs National Park. On the ground floor it has a good sized living room with an open fire, fully-equipped kitchen, a twin bedroom and a cloakroom with toilet. Upstairs are two good-sized bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, the other a twin, and a bathroom.
It has a south-facing garden with a patio, garden table and barbecue for eating out, and is approached by a path which follows through to a further property. There is a pub 70 yards away and a community tennis court and recreation ground in the village. Next to the cottage is a bridle path. Wonderful walks, cycling routes, welcoming pubs and lovely scenery are all around. The West Sussex Falconry, Uppark House (NT), the South Downs Way and a variety of golf courses are close by. Goodwood for horse and motor racing, Petworth, Midhurst, Cowdray Polo, Chichester with its cobbled streets and cathedral, and the beaches at Hayling Island and The Witterings are a short drive away. Portsmouth with HMS Victory, Gun Wharf Quay and day trips to the Isle of Wight are within easy reach. Jane Austen’s House at Chawton, the Watercress Steam Railway, Birdworld and Winchester make good day trips. Beach 15 miles. Shop, pub and tea room 70 yards.

The Horseshoe Annex is a Tardis of a property with lots of room in a very cosy space. As you walk into the property you are greeted by the kitchen/dining room which is well-equipped with everything you are going to need for this year’s staycation. The grounds are shared with the owners, but you do have your own piece of garden to the side of the annex. Situated in Steyning at the north end of the River Adur gap in the South Downs, 4 miles north of the coastal town of Shoreham-by-Sea. Located on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty this is a fantastic place to stay for the dog walker, rambler and for those of you that like a day out with the kids, there is a plethora of places to go.

If you are looking for a break from city life, you could take a ramble across the South Downs, or hire a bike, stopping for a rest in one of the tea rooms or inns. The hiking highlight has to be Chanctonbury Ring which is a late Bronze or early Iron Age hill fort that boasts sublime views over the South Downs countryside. The ring, which is well-known for its prominent beech trees, is hailed as a place where the supernatural happens. Steyning itself is a pretty historical town with a wealth of 16th century buildings, local independent shops, places to eat and drink and the host to many different festivals. If you are a more of a biker then there are plenty of trails locally, to keep you busy. The WWT Wetland Centre, Swanbourne Lake and South Downs National Park with its pretty villages and fabulous hiking opportunities are all within 5 minutes. Numerous stately homes and gardens are dotted around the area. Goodwood with its world famous motor circuit and horse racing venue is a 20 minute easy drive. The pretty grass runway airport here offers the chance to take an airborne sightseeing experience offering memorable views of the coastline including Portsmouth Dockyards, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower that by road are a 40 minute drive. Lunch or tea airside in this stunning location is also possible. Dogs are welcomed everywhere at Goodwood. Two championship golf courses are on the estate and spa experiences available at the hotel. Tours and afternoon tea are available also here at the stately home. Chichester with its cathedral and Festival Theatre are a short drive, Brighton being 18 miles distant. Dog friendly beaches abound with quite a collection very nearby, a favourite being West Beach at Climping where there is the lovely Baliffscourt for a special dining treat.
