The picturesque and colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron is only 6 miles away where there is a selection of interesting independent shops and a great choice of restaurants and eateries including, fish and chips, ice cream parlour and fine dining. The National Trust house and gardens of Llanerchaeron are 4 miles away and from here there’s a delightful level pedestrian country footpath, suitable for bikes, pushchairs or wheelchairs, which leads into Aberaeron. Pretty New Quay with boats bobbing about in the harbour is just a few miles further on, and is definitely worth a visit. You must look out for the resident pods of bottlenose dolphins seen in the bay on an almost daily basis! Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Talsarnau, Wales 5.00This cottage for four, one of a pair, has many original features including beamed ceilings and a narrow staircase. Situated near the village of Talsarnau, it lies in the hills between Harlech and Porthmadog. With walks from the door into the hills and surrounding mountains, it is only a short drive across the estuary to the Italianate village of Portmeirion, designed by Sir Clough Williams Ellis and used for the series ‘Prisoner’. Nearby in the former slate quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, is Bounce Below, where you can bounce on trampoline nets in an underground slate cavern, and Zipworld Titan, the largest zip wire zone in the world, a real mecca for adrenaline enthusiasts. The famous Ffestiniog Railway also runs from Blaenau on a scenic journey down to the coast at Porthmadog. The Cambrian coastline includes Harlech with its castle and sandy beach and Barmouth, a harbour town with a mountainous backdrop, whilst in the other direction the Lleyn Peninsula features the seaside towns of Criccieth and Abersoch.
