Set on the outskirts of one of Worcestershire’s most beautiful villages, Elmley Castle, nestling below the northern slopes of Bredon Hill in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Lodge at Elmley Meadow is situated on a small holding with sheep and chickens, and is attached to the discreet and friendly owners’ home, with views to Bredon Hill. With a cosy open plan living, dining and kitchen area with a wood burner to relax in front of on a chilly evening, a downstairs double bedroom and shower room and a large private courtyard to enjoy eating al fresco. It is an ideal property for all the family including your four-legged friends, who have use of an enclosed field in the owners’ grounds. The property is on an 18-mile cycle route known as ’around the hill’ which encircles Bredon Hill and goes through local villages, there are several footpaths in the area, including one which starts at the property, at the end of the drive.
The village of Elmley Castle has a beautiful tree lined main street with many black and white and old red brick cottages, with a pub at the end which is only half a mile from the lodge. The 11th-century Norman and Medieval castle, where the village derives its name, has long since disappeared but the earthworks still remain in the nearby deer park. The nearby market towns of Pershore and Evesham have a range of shops, restaurants and pubs and are only 3 and 5 miles away, and can also be accessed by the local bus route which departs from outside the village pub.
Within 8 miles you can find yourself in the Cotswolds where you can visit beautiful towns and villages including Broadway, 8 miles, Moreton-in-Marsh, 17 miles, and Stow-on-the-Wold, 19 miles, where you can find quaint high streets and fantastic eateries. There is so much more to discover close by including the cathedral city of Worcester, 13 miles, the historic riverside town of Tewkesbury, 13 miles, the Malverns, with their magnificent hills and popular festival theatre, 19 miles, and the regency town of Cheltenham made famous from its horse racing festivals, 18 miles. A town brimming with half-timbered buildings, there are many interesting sights associated with Shakespeare to be seen; the Holy Trinity Church, and the Bard’s last resting place, Guild Chapel, Hall’s Croft and New Place all make for interesting visits, as does Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the adjoining Swan Theatre. New Inn House is also ideal for visiting Cheltenham, and the Gustav Holst Museum, Evesham – reputedly Lady Godiva’s site of burial, and Tewkesbury.
In addition to the many historic Cotswold villages and towns, the surrounding countryside is excellent terrain for walking; a climb to the summit of the Worcestershire Beacons affords marvellous views of lush green Hereford and the flat expanses of the Severn Valley. This is truly the perfect location for families and friends to getaway and relax. There is a communal garden located behind the car park with plenty of seating, and you are able to exercise your dog here, but please do take responsibility for cleaning up after them and keeping them on a lead. A number of stunning walks are available from your doorstep around the stunning historical village of Bretforton, or take a trip to the nearby and historical Stratford-Upon-Avon, a river boat ride or enjoy a round of golf at one of the courses close by.
Evesham is known for its stunning riverside setting along the banks of the River Avon. Take leisurely strolls along the scenic pathways, or hire a boat to explore the waterways at your own pace. For history enthusiasts, a visit to the 8th century Evesham Abbey and its fascinating museum is a must. The town also boasts a vibrant arts scene, with galleries and theatres offering a glimpse into the local creative community.
Nature lovers can revel in the Malvern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where panoramic views and invigorating walks await. Additionally, the nearby Cotswolds provide ample opportunities for hiking, cycling, and wildlife spotting. Visit Broadway, often referred to as the ’jewel of the Cotswolds’, which has honey-colored stone buildings and a picturesque High Street. Stroll through boutique shops, art galleries, and antique stores, or take in the stunning views from Broadway Tower, an iconic folly standing atop Fish Hill. Just a short drive away lies Moreton-in-Marsh, a market town steeped in history and surrounded by lush countryside. Explore the vibrant market square, where traders have gathered for centuries, offering an array of goods and local produce.

Located near the medieval town of Tewkesbury there is plenty on the doorstep to explore and the M5 is very close by with nearby access to the Cotswolds and Cheltenham. Enjoy the bustling market town of Tewkesbury by day, exquisite waterside walks and theatre shows. Take a leisurely meander in the market town, weave in and out of the Tudor buildings and visit farmers’ markets, antique shops and tea rooms. Pick up a small aperitif and step aboard a river cruise (season permitting) before catching a matinee at the Roses Theatre.
If historic splendour is on the agenda, Tewkesbury is home to a 12th-century abbey, adorned with one of the highest Norman towers in the country, and the largest medieval re-enactment festival in Europe in July. Just a short drive to the other side of town you will find Croft Farm, where you can spend the days on the lake, sailing, swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking. There is even a selection of peddalos for the younger ones. The café at Croft Farm is dog friendly too. Beyond Tewkesbury you will find the famous Cotswolds, and a day out in Chipping Campden is a must. Admire the streets of honey-hued, ‘chocolate box’ houses, boutique shops, pubs and restaurants, plus several castles nearby. There are plenty of on and off-road cycle routes and some family friendly trails to explore.
On days when you want to just be at one with nature, take a trip to the nearby nature reserve - educational and fun for all the family. You will find Regency Cheltenham within 10 miles, great to visit for one of their cultural festivals or a flutter at the races. Stunning Sudeley and Eastnor Castles, and Malvern are all within 15 miles. Whatever you choose to do, The Exchange will not disappoint. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
