Parking is shared with the owner in the main drive and a well-lit 37m public footpath leads from the main drive to the rental property. The property has its own small garden area and an aspect that faces away from the owner’s house. With a footpath adjacent to the house there is access to open countryside right from your doorstep.
Inside is light, spacious and airy with a wood burning stove and newly fitted kitchen. The owner has furnished the property in a simple yet stylish fashion with good quality dining table, sofa and chairs. All is open plan and the light from various windows creates a charming airy feel. There is one bedroom and a bathroom with toilet.

- Royal Wootton Bassett, EnglandOriginally two working cottages, Ashdene is now one large property which has been extended to provide modern accommodation with a private indoor heated swimming pool in a separate building, a hot tub for four, a large private, enclosed garden with lots of facilities for entertaining guests of all ages from the children’s’ play area to a very well-equipped, purpose built games room. The main living area is on the first floor and the majority of the bedrooms are located on the ground floor.

- Mere, EnglandThis detached self-contained holiday lodge, close to the owner’s home, is situated in the most idyllic place on the grounds of Rushmore Estate, where King John’s House resides. This is a private 8000-acre estate and working arable farm, and as guests you are allowed to use the estate and grounds whenever you wish. There is also on-site golf, coarse fishing and riding stables. Set on the edge of Tollard Royal, which is a charming medieval village with a pub that dates back to 1300.
The lodge is perfect for a romantic break of just relaxing and taking in the beautiful scenery, or it can be an active break with all that this estate has to offer. There are also many more sights to see, including nearby Salisbury with its famous cathedral. Also worth a visit are Stonehenge and Avebury with their mystical stone circles. - Marlborough, EnglandThis Grade II listed detached thatched cottage is situated in the churchyard overlooking St James Church and Avebury Manor, and is within a few minutes’ walk from the Neolithic Avebury Stone Circle. The cottage dates from at least 1724 and was built with a timber frame and wattle and daub construction. It has a thatched roof, original low beamed ceilings and is painted with lime wash throughout. The living room hosts a wood burner. The original property was extended at both ends and became two cottages, and in the 1970s the current owner reverted it back to one larger cottage. It is set away from the High Street in a very quiet position, with a private garden where you can relax and enjoy the ambience of this mystical village (please note the garden may not be completely dog proof).
The UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Trust village of Avebury has a manor house and gardens to explore along an archeology museum detailing the history of the stone circle and surrounding area. There are several walks from Avebury including well-marked footpaths to Silbury Hill, Windmill Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the Ridgeway. The White Horse Trail also passes through the village, as does the National Cycle Network route 403.
The historic market town of Devizes is a 15 minute drive away with the Kennet and Avon Canal and Caen Hill flight of locks to visit and you can also take in a tour of the Wadsworth Brewery. Beautiful Marlborough is also a 15 minute drive away, with interesting shops to visit on the wide High Street. Savernake Forest is a further 5 minutes drive from Marlborough, dating back to pre-Tudor times there are 4,500 acres of woods to explore.
Further afield there is the city of Bath to visit along with the Roman Baths and the American Museum. For more ancient monuments, Stonehenge and museum is not to be missed. Other National Trust sites nearby are the gardens at Stourhead, the house and deer park of Dyrham and the historic Abbey and village of Lacock, home of the birthplace of photography and the setting for many films, including Harry Potter. - East Tytherton, EnglandThese delightful properties, converted into comfortable holiday cottages, stand in the grounds of the owners’ working farm (care needed with children) and equestrian centre (guests can bring own horse or pony by arrangement). The Granary (ref W43949) is a spacious barn and has been restored, taking care to use many of the original features and characteristics of its original life as a granary – the beams, the grain bag pulley system and other unknown objects have been put to good use. Both The Coach House (ref 15661) and Hog Pits (ref 18961) are all on one level and have a cosy woodburner. They all have an enclosed garden with lovely views over the countryside. The chickens and pigs are a delight to watch in their free range enclosures. This is the perfect holiday base from which to explore the many attractions Wiltshire has to offer – just 5 miles from the M4 yet in a completely rural setting. There are many footpaths and cycle routes in the surrounding area, with the Wiltshire and Berkshire canal towpaths also nearby. Within a short drive are the picturesque villages of Lacock and Castle Combe, both favourite locations for TV and film directors. Lacock features in Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Pride and Prejudice, and Castle Combe was the backdrop for War Horse. Chippenham is an old market town with good shopping facilities and Devizes is on the Kennet and Avon canal with the famous Caen locks. Bradford on Avon is often referred to as a ‘mini Bath’ with splendid Georgian architecture and a bustling community. The Roman spa city of Bath itself is a short drive and a must visit for a day out, with many famous sights to explore such as the museums, the abbey, Pulteney Bridge and the Roman baths to name but a few. Bowood House has magnificent gardens and adventure playground, and the famous ancient sites and stone circles at Stonehenge and Avebury are well worth a visit.
