Alma House is situated on a cobbled street just off the historic High Street of Marlborough. This former coach house is Grade II listed with many original features. Sleeping up to eight guests, this property is a perfect retreat for friends and families alike, a perfect base for those wishing to explore what Wiltshire and The Cotswolds have to offer.
Arranged over three floors, style and comfort blend effortlessly here. The living room has comfortable sofas to relax on, as well as Wi-Fi and a Smart TV. The inviting wood burner set within a small inglenook is great to cosy up in front of on cooler evenings, with unlimited logs supplied. The dining room next door can seat the whole family, and the kitchen features a range cooker as well as providing everything you will need to rustle up a hearty breakfast or evening supper. From a bread maker to ice machine, it has everything you require, as well as an additional dining table. Reached by two staircases, the first floor offers a master bedroom with kingsize bed and en-suite. A twin room and family bathroom are on one side, whilst there is another kingsize bedroom on the other with access up to the second floor where you can retreat to another kingsize bedroom, with attractive beamed ceilings. Outside is a small sitting-out area to the front of the property with a table and chairs for two guests. The owner includes a lovely welcome pack with samples of local produce that you can purchase more of from our local area.
The centre of Marlborough is on your doorstep with its range of great restaurants and pubs, along with a variety of high quality and independent shops offering a unique blend of modern attractions and facilities. The high street is one of the widest in the UK and offers a twice-weekly market on a Wednesday and Saturday. Avebury is nearby with its stone circle, which is larger and older than Stonehenge. It lies in the centre of the picturesque village of Wootton Rivers, just 5 miles from the delightful market town of Marlborough. Since the property was originally two cottages, there are two steep staircases which lead to the first floor, accessed via the dining room and living room. On the ground floor, this detached cottage has a spacious open plan kitchen/dining area with breakfast bar, a living room with wood burner for the winter evenings, a utility area and shower room. The first floor, with low ceilings, has a master bedroom with kingsize bed, an adjoining room featuring a day bed, and a second bedroom with twin beds. The period-style bathroom, featuring a luxurious, roll-top bath and twin basins, is in the middle of the first floor at the top of the stairs. Outside is a private courtyard garden with comfortable seating and driveway parking for two small cars or one large car.

With the Kennet and Avon canal being a short walk away as well as many other countryside walks. - Marlborough, EnglandThis Grade II listed detached thatched cottage is situated in the churchyard overlooking St James Church and Avebury Manor, and is within a few minutes’ walk from the Neolithic Avebury Stone Circle. The cottage dates from at least 1724 and was built with a timber frame and wattle and daub construction. It has a thatched roof, original low beamed ceilings and is painted with lime wash throughout. The living room hosts a wood burner. The original property was extended at both ends and became two cottages, and in the 1970s the current owner reverted it back to one larger cottage. It is set away from the High Street in a very quiet position, with a private garden where you can relax and enjoy the ambience of this mystical village (please note the garden may not be completely dog proof).
The UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Trust village of Avebury has a manor house and gardens to explore along an archeology museum detailing the history of the stone circle and surrounding area. There are several walks from Avebury including well-marked footpaths to Silbury Hill, Windmill Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the Ridgeway. The White Horse Trail also passes through the village, as does the National Cycle Network route 403.
The historic market town of Devizes is a 15 minute drive away with the Kennet and Avon Canal and Caen Hill flight of locks to visit and you can also take in a tour of the Wadsworth Brewery. Beautiful Marlborough is also a 15 minute drive away, with interesting shops to visit on the wide High Street. Savernake Forest is a further 5 minutes drive from Marlborough, dating back to pre-Tudor times there are 4,500 acres of woods to explore.
Further afield there is the city of Bath to visit along with the Roman Baths and the American Museum. For more ancient monuments, Stonehenge and museum is not to be missed. Other National Trust sites nearby are the gardens at Stourhead, the house and deer park of Dyrham and the historic Abbey and village of Lacock, home of the birthplace of photography and the setting for many films, including Harry Potter. - Salisbury, EnglandThe main house is a unique, Grade II listed, Georgian manor house nestled in 25 acres of Wiltshire countryside. This beautiful detached property features a games room in the basement, a ’secret’ walled garden and well-equipped accommodation for families, friends or couples who enjoy holidaying together, and with 9 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, this makes the ideal choice. Set in private grounds, this charming house has a modern, eclectic, English country decor theme throughout. For those who prefer ground floor accommodation, there is a double bed in the library, which has an en-suite, with a shower and toilet. This shower room has also been designed as a place for washing down your four-legged friends after country walks. The kitchen centres around an Aga, and has a farmhouse-style table, along with all the facilities needed to enjoy a self-catering holiday. On the first floor, known as the Georgian Wing, there are 5 bedrooms, all with a private bathroom. Guests can enjoy exclusive use of the grounds, which include a walled ’secret’ garden next to the house. There is also a large lawned area for outdoor dining, sunbathing, reading and relaxing. For those who enjoy a walk, there is a 1.5km woodland path behind the house. To the front of the house, an additional large lawned area can be used for games with the children. For those who may be celebrating a special occasion, or perhaps looking to treat yourself, a private chef can be arranged to cook some or all meals during your stay (by arrangement with owner, at cost). There is also a 1-bedroom annexe called The Nook which is also available on the Henge Estate and can be booked under a separate listing.
If you fancy venturing out, Stonehenge is just over 5 minutes’ away, and Salisbury is just over 20 minutes’. The local village is half a mile away and has a convenience store, a pub serving local ales and a restaurant. There are many places to visit within easy reach including Bath, Marlborough, Winchester, Southampton and Shaftesbury. For those who enjoy history, visit Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Durrington Walls, Avebury Henge and stone circles, Alexander Keiller Museum, Andover Iron Age Museum, and many castles dotted around the area. Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World and Finkley Down Farm are within reach, and for those who enjoy outdoor activity, they can book horse riding, fishing, art, golf, festivals and markets, there is plenty within a short drive.
