This attractive barn is attached to the owner’s home with its own garden and patio area with wonderful views towards the village and the surrounding countryside. It has a stair lift and a disability aid to help less mobile guests to access the bath. The holiday property enjoys a peaceful location in the small, picturesque village of Fonthill Bishop, where a tranquil river flows to a beautiful lake on the historically fascinating Fonthill Estate. For rambling, horse riding and cycling there is a good network of bridle and footpaths in the area. A truly rural spot, yet just one mile from the A303 and easy access to the many sights and attractions within the area including Stonehenge with its mystical stone circle, Avebury stone circle and Salisbury with its cathedral. The shopping town of Shaftesbury is within 20 minutes, where visitors flock to see the famous cobbled ‘Gold Hill’. The small towns of Tisbury and Hindon have local amenities and good pubs, both within 2 miles. The seaside resort of Bournemouth is just 40 miles, and the New Forest within an easy drive. It is also a convenient base for visiting Bath, Bristol, Stourhead, Longleat House and Safari Park, Wilton House and grounds, and the south coast. Golf courses nearby. Beach 40 miles. This Grade II listed detached thatched cottage is situated in the churchyard overlooking St James Church and Avebury Manor, and is within a few minutes’ walk from the Neolithic Avebury Stone Circle. The cottage dates from at least 1724 and was built with a timber frame and wattle and daub construction. It has a thatched roof, original low beamed ceilings and is painted with lime wash throughout. The living room hosts a wood burner. The original property was extended at both ends and became two cottages, and in the 1970s the current owner reverted it back to one larger cottage. It is set away from the High Street in a very quiet position, with a private garden where you can relax and enjoy the ambience of this mystical village (please note the garden may not be completely dog proof).
The UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Trust village of Avebury has a manor house and gardens to explore along an archeology museum detailing the history of the stone circle and surrounding area. There are several walks from Avebury including well-marked footpaths to Silbury Hill, Windmill Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the Ridgeway. The White Horse Trail also passes through the village, as does the National Cycle Network route 403.
The historic market town of Devizes is a 15 minute drive away with the Kennet and Avon Canal and Caen Hill flight of locks to visit and you can also take in a tour of the Wadsworth Brewery. Beautiful Marlborough is also a 15 minute drive away, with interesting shops to visit on the wide High Street. Savernake Forest is a further 5 minutes drive from Marlborough, dating back to pre-Tudor times there are 4,500 acres of woods to explore.
Further afield there is the city of Bath to visit along with the Roman Baths and the American Museum. For more ancient monuments, Stonehenge and museum is not to be missed. Other National Trust sites nearby are the gardens at Stourhead, the house and deer park of Dyrham and the historic Abbey and village of Lacock, home of the birthplace of photography and the setting for many films, including Harry Potter. The pub and community shop are a 5 minute walk away and the nearest supermarkets are in Marlborough and Devizes.

The Granary (ref W43949) is a spacious barn and has been restored, taking care to use many of the original features and characteristics of its original life as a granary – the beams, the grain bag pulley system and other unknown objects have been put to good use. Both The Coach House (ref 15661) and Hog Pits (ref 18961) are all on one level and have a cosy woodburner. They all have an enclosed garden with lovely views over the countryside. The chickens and pigs are a delight to watch in their free range enclosures. This is the perfect holiday base from which to explore the many attractions Wiltshire has to offer – just 5 miles from the M4 yet in a completely rural setting. There are many footpaths and cycle routes in the surrounding area, with the Wiltshire and Berkshire canal towpaths also nearby. Within a short drive are the picturesque villages of Lacock and Castle Combe, both favourite locations for TV and film directors. Lacock features in Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Pride and Prejudice, and Castle Combe was the backdrop for War Horse. Chippenham is an old market town with good shopping facilities and Devizes is on the Kennet and Avon canal with the famous Caen locks. Bradford on Avon is often referred to as a ‘mini Bath’ with splendid Georgian architecture and a bustling community. The Roman spa city of Bath itself is a short drive and a must visit for a day out, with many famous sights to explore such as the museums, the abbey, Pulteney Bridge and the Roman baths to name but a few. Bowood House has magnificent gardens and adventure playground, and the famous ancient sites and stone circles at Stonehenge and Avebury are well worth a visit. Set in a peaceful rural location on the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire, this holiday property is situated on Whitebridge Farm, which is not a working farm but is ideal for a family touring holiday with excellent walking and cycling in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Set in 10 acres along with 8 other cottages, they are grouped around an attractive grassed courtyard and were once stables for the owner’s impressive farmhouse (built in 1872). Within the grounds, adjacent to the main car park, is a grassed children’s playground area (for under 12s only), and there is a field adjacent to the property that is ideal for walking dogs. There are 2 x 120 KW fast charges that have been installed within a 7-minute walk of Whitebridge Farm. They can be found on the grounds of an award-winning deli where you can enjoy a leisurely coffee or lunch whilst your car is charging.

Both the South Wiltshire and Dorset cycle ways pass nearby and there are numerous waymarked walks, including the half-hour Shaftesbury town trail, which leads to the famous Gold Hill, with its magnificent views. Many historic houses in the area, including Stourhead (National Trust). An hour’s drive leads to Salisbury, Bath, Cheddar and Weymouth. Visit Stonehenge, and then the ancient Avebury Stone Circle.
