The village itself is well served with a well-stocked Coop shop and a village pub, both just a short stroll from the house. Shrewton is perfectly located to explore the vast wildlife haven that is Salisbury Plain. The impressive Neolithic stones of Stonehenge are a short drive away as is the stunning Cathedral City of Salisbury and is well worth a visit with a fabulous selection of independent shops, pubs and eateries and of course the impressive cathedral. For the perfect family trip Longleat House and Safari Park is just half an hour’s drive away and is certain to impress guests of all ages. A little further afield, the stunning city of Bath famous for its Spa and majestic Royal Crescent is well worth a trip. The Oak (UK37719) and The Ash (UK37720) have been lovingly converted from old farm buildings to create spacious luxury accommodation, open-plan living space with exposed oak beams. To the front of the cottages is a courtyard, which offers further outdoor seating and parking. These properties are in a rural area, with breath-taking views across the countryside. Situated on the outskirts of the small village of Wingfield, close to picturesque market towns and rolling countryside, this is an ideal base for a relaxing break, family holiday or romantic getaway.

This attractive barn is attached to the owner’s home with its own garden and patio area with wonderful views towards the village and the surrounding countryside. It has a stair lift and a disability aid to help less mobile guests to access the bath. The holiday property enjoys a peaceful location in the small, picturesque village of Fonthill Bishop, where a tranquil river flows to a beautiful lake on the historically fascinating Fonthill Estate. For rambling, horse riding and cycling there is a good network of bridle and footpaths in the area. A truly rural spot, yet just one mile from the A303 and easy access to the many sights and attractions within the area including Stonehenge with its mystical stone circle, Avebury stone circle and Salisbury with its cathedral. The shopping town of Shaftesbury is within 20 minutes, where visitors flock to see the famous cobbled ‘Gold Hill’. The small towns of Tisbury and Hindon have local amenities and good pubs, both within 2 miles. The seaside resort of Bournemouth is just 40 miles, and the New Forest within an easy drive. It is also a convenient base for visiting Bath, Bristol, Stourhead, Longleat House and Safari Park, Wilton House and grounds, and the south coast. Golf courses nearby. Beach 40 miles. This detached self-contained holiday lodge, close to the owner’s home, is situated in the most idyllic place on the grounds of Rushmore Estate, where King John’s House resides. This is a private 8000-acre estate and working arable farm, and as guests you are allowed to use the estate and grounds whenever you wish. There is also on-site golf, coarse fishing and riding stables. Set on the edge of Tollard Royal, which is a charming medieval village with a pub that dates back to 1300.

The lodge is perfect for a romantic break of just relaxing and taking in the beautiful scenery, or it can be an active break with all that this estate has to offer. There are also many more sights to see, including nearby Salisbury with its famous cathedral. Also worth a visit are Stonehenge and Avebury with their mystical stone circles. This Grade II listed detached thatched cottage is situated in the churchyard overlooking St James Church and Avebury Manor, and is within a few minutes’ walk from the Neolithic Avebury Stone Circle. The cottage dates from at least 1724 and was built with a timber frame and wattle and daub construction. It has a thatched roof, original low beamed ceilings and is painted with lime wash throughout. The living room hosts a wood burner. The original property was extended at both ends and became two cottages, and in the 1970s the current owner reverted it back to one larger cottage. It is set away from the High Street in a very quiet position, with a private garden where you can relax and enjoy the ambience of this mystical village (please note the garden may not be completely dog proof).
The UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Trust village of Avebury has a manor house and gardens to explore along an archeology museum detailing the history of the stone circle and surrounding area. There are several walks from Avebury including well-marked footpaths to Silbury Hill, Windmill Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the Ridgeway. The White Horse Trail also passes through the village, as does the National Cycle Network route 403.
The historic market town of Devizes is a 15 minute drive away with the Kennet and Avon Canal and Caen Hill flight of locks to visit and you can also take in a tour of the Wadsworth Brewery. Beautiful Marlborough is also a 15 minute drive away, with interesting shops to visit on the wide High Street. Savernake Forest is a further 5 minutes drive from Marlborough, dating back to pre-Tudor times there are 4,500 acres of woods to explore.
Further afield there is the city of Bath to visit along with the Roman Baths and the American Museum. For more ancient monuments, Stonehenge and museum is not to be missed. Other National Trust sites nearby are the gardens at Stourhead, the house and deer park of Dyrham and the historic Abbey and village of Lacock, home of the birthplace of photography and the setting for many films, including Harry Potter. The pub and community shop are a 5 minute walk away and the nearest supermarkets are in Marlborough and Devizes.
