This imposing Edwardian country house stands in its own garden overlooking sheep grazing the common at Goathland, whilst the views of moors and forest may be enjoyed from the west-facing terrace. Set in the village of Goathland, perhaps better known as Aidensfield from the TV series Heartbeat, in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is in an excellent area for walking – the North Yorks Moors steam railway stops at the village station on its journey from Pickering to Grosmont. Horse riding can also be found nearby.
Whitby being only 9 miles away is a picturesque seaport famous for its Captain Cook connections, where the cobbled streets and yards stand in the shadow of the Abbey, overlooking the harbour. The 3 miles of sandy beaches lead to the pretty coastal village of Sandsend. Robin Hood’s Bay (renowned as a bygone smugglers’ haunt), Runswick Bay and Staithes are all worth a visit. Inland, the moors are scattered with villages, many with excellent inns. Goathland itself offers an excellent choice of inns and restaurants, in addition to local shops, post office and cafés. This holiday property is set in the grounds of Maddy House Farm, which dates back to the 15th century. It is surrounded by over 20 acres of its own fields, with breathtaking views across the moorland towards Castleton, which has co-op, tea rooms with part time post office and two pubs. The Heritage Coast of Yorkshire and Whitby are easily accessed, and you can take a leisurely journey through the Esk Valley. Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington can be found a little further afield. A must when visiting this area are the smugglers coves of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay. Todd’s Pasture has nestled in the side of a beautiful valley just outside the picturesque village of Hawnby since the 17th century. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park, this detached property is simply stunning and is everything you would want from an old Yorkshire farmhouse. Todd’s Pasture has been renovated throughout but still retains its sense of history. No expense has been spared and visitors are ensured of luxury throughout.

On arrival visitors are welcomed by a traditional boxed hedge garden and large flag stone patio. There is a flight of steps up to the main house, as well as a level entrance to the rear. Entry is into a small entrance hall and then into the large kitchen. This room oozes character and certainly has the WOW factor! With vaulted ceiling, beams, wood burner, handmade work tops and cupboards, Aga, central island and 40" Smart TV, this social area will soon become the heart of your holiday experience. There is comfy seating around the wood burner where you can sit and relax whilst enjoying watching the cook in the family make you delicious meals. There are double doors that lead into the sun room which has a large table ideal for enjoying light meals. The formal dining room has a large feature table and enough seating for everyone to gather together. In the central hall you will find a downstairs toilet and cloakroom as well as the entrance to the living room which has three huge comfy settees surrounding the wood burner. The large flatscreen TV is wall mounted above the fireplace to ensure everyone can enjoy evening entertainment or take part in some friendly competition at table tennis, darts or table football which you will find in the garage.
Along the corridor from the kitchen and down a couple of steps, there are two bedrooms offering ground floor accommodation with zip and link super kingsize beds and en-suite bathrooms. Both rooms have lovely garden views and are ideal should you struggle with stairs. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities. One has a kingsize bed and the other has a zip and link super kingsize bed. All of the bedrooms are beautifully decorated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard. Todd’s Pasture is only 8 miles from Helmsley which is arguably one of Yorkshire’s finest market towns. This wonderful village is where the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills meet offering some of the finest views and countryside. Helmsley is also a walker’s paradise where the Ebor Way meets the Cleveland Way, and also the Inn Way. With a reputation for great Yorkshire hospitality, the market square is a meeting point for walkers, cyclists and locals alike. Helmsley knows how to keep its visitors happy, with many shops, cafés, eateries including Michelin starred restaurants, an open-air swimming pool, walled garden, castle, bird of prey centre, microbrewery, two abbey ruins and the stately home of Duncombe Park. You will need more than a few nights at Todd’s Pasture to experience all that this little town has to offer. The scenic east coast is easily accessible, as is the historic city of York which is only 24 miles to the south. Village pub and shop within 1 mile, alternative pubs and restaurant within 6 miles.

Denton House, in the hamlet of Ravenscar, stands in an elevated position 600 feet above sea level overlooking Robin Hood’s Bay and the North York Moors. The horizon is 33 miles distant on a clear day. This detached home was built in 1993 from locally quarried stone blocks and has oil central heating and two log burning stoves. A garden room, also constructed from stone blocks is heated by electric oil radiator, and contains a sink unit, garden chairs, television with built in DVD player. The main feature of the room is a games table which can be used for either American pool, air hockey and table tennis. A lockable garage may be used for the storage of bikes. The garden, which overlooks a field immediately behind the house and towards the valley and bay, has two patio areas, one behind the house and the other next to the garden room. Both enjoy a sunny aspect for the majority of sunny days. Sheep graze in the field at certain times of the year and dog owners need to be aware that this is sheep country. There is a modern kitchen and a handy downstairs shower room. The second floor has an open plan landing with sofa looking out towards the moors.
Denton House is situated within a few hundred yards of the Cleveland Way route, which is perfect for guests who enjoy walking. There is a path leading down to a beach from the clifftop, or alternative road access to the beach via a track 1.5 miles away. There is also the old railway line which ran through Ravenscar between Scarborough and Whitby until the 1960’s which serves as a mainly gentle cycle track for the family. The station platform, tunnel and bridges are still in place along the 21 mile line. The beach below the cliffs at Ravenscar can be accessed by footpath across the golf course or by the disused railway line. Vehicle access is by a scenic single track road leading down the valley to a sandy beach. The foreshore of Robin Hood’s Bay is very well known for ammonite fossils and searching for them can be good fun for children of all ages.
The larger resorts of Whitby and Scarborough are just a short drive away. Whitby is a very busy working harbour and town, and is famous for the Dracula and Heartbeat locations and the exploits of Captainn Cook. Not forgetting award winning fish restaurants. Alternatively, Scarborough is a large Victorian seaside resort famous for its two bays, the North Bay being the quieter of the two. The long marine drive is over three miles of flat walking and is ideal for a pleasant evening stroll. Shop 8 miles, pub 2 miles and restaurant 500 yards.
