Grade II listed dog-friendly inn Archangel is a cosy bolthole located in the picturesque market town of Frome, Somerset. Mentioned in the Domesday book, for more than 900 years the inn has occupied the cobbled high street, but now its quirky and distinctive rooms have been given a contemporary twist with plush furnishings, cool iron furniture and freestanding roll-top bathtubs. Much more than a restaurant, the Archangel has a happening bar and multiple spaces for entertaining such as the Library and the famous Cube dining area. Wall space is lent to local artists, and in the summer the French windows open into our lovely courtyard where you can dine al-fresco while listening to live music. Close to the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are plenty of opportunities for walking with your trusty hound. For culture vultures, the very best of Frome’s art and heritage is on the doorstep, and for those keen to get out into Somerset’s stunning countryside there are plenty of attractions to see, including the dramatic cliffs and caves of Cheddar Gorge, the beauty of the Mendip Hills, and the exotic big cats of Longleat Safari and Adventure Park.

Four-legged friends may join you in the bar and adjoining lounge which features super-comfy deep leather sofas, roaring log fires, exposed stone walls and Renaissance murals. You can expect nothing less than a delicious locally sourced menu that changes with the seasons and a selection of real ales on tap, including a special brew made especially for us by Milk Street Brewery, and various ciders from Frome-based brewery Lilley's. When the weather is fine, head into our sunny courtyard garden for an al fresco drink or a casual meal with your pooch. For more refined dining savour the best of season West Country fare in our free-floating glass mezzanine dining space known as the Cube, with seasonal, unpretentious dishes using fresh seafood and locally reared meat are served. Archangel is ideally nestled close to the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which offers plenty of opportunity for walking across 76 square miles of limestone hills, ash-maple woodlands and grassland with your canine companion. Head to Chew Valley Lake to enjoy a leisurely walk that begins at Herriott's Bridge - a nature reserve where islands, lagoons, bays and channels have been created to provide safe areas for birds to roost, nest, feed and shelter. The magnificent Cheddar Gorge is also a short drive away, as is Longleat Safari Park, the 18th-century landscape garden known as Stourhead and the World Heritage city of Bath. Marvel at the ancient mystery of Stonehenge. The Archangel is lucky to be so near to world-famous prehistoric monument Stonehenge, an absolute must see!
