This charming, semi-detached, single-storey cottage is situated at the entrance of a farm, and nestles in a small village in the South Downs National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The farm continues to run as an arable farm and has been in the family for several generations. There are many lovely scenic walks, footpaths and bridleways to discover right from the door!
Barley Cottage makes the ideal base for families or couples wishing to explore the area. It offers tastefully furnished accommodation, with a country theme. The open plan living/kitchen/dining area is comfortable and accessorised, and has a Bose sound speaker. There are two lovely bedrooms and a bathroom, and guests have use of free Wi-Fi and a telephone (some mobile phone signals are weak in the area). As well as the enclosed patio garden with seating, there is an extensive shared lawned area and a lovely outdoor heated swimming pool (open mid June-mid Sep, to be used only by guests staying at the property) enclosed by a wall, with sun loungers, seating and recliners.
The local is pub 75 yards away, and Compton is about a mile away with a lovely church, pub serving food, village store and tea rooms. Enjoy peaceful walks along bridlepaths leading to The South Downs Way, 3 miles.
Historic Chichester lies 10 miles away, with its beautiful cathedral and festival theatre, and don’t miss a visit to Goodwood, famous for is motorsport event and racing meetings, as well as its golf course. Fontwell Races are also within easy driving distance, and scenic boat tours can be enjoyed around Chichester harbour. Other places of interest include the picturesque sailing town of Bosham, Midhurst, Portsmouth with its waterside dining, shipyard museums, historic ships, Spinnaker Tower and designer shopping. Hayling Island and West Wittering, with its beautiful sand dunes, are within 20 minutes’ drive and there are many National Trust homes and gardens to discover including Uppark House, Petworth House, Arundel Castle and West Dean Gardens. Fishbourne Roman Palace and the Novium Museum in Chichester have excavations and Roman artefacts. The South Downs is also the setting for the Weald and Dowland Open Air Museum. Beach 13 miles.
