About this property

The Bear of Rodborough is a truly unique dog-friendly destination set amidst 300-acres of National Trust land on Rodborough Common in Stroud - dog-walking haven! A former 17th-century coaching inn, The Bear makes the perfect escape from everyday life with its historical ambience.

Expect comfy beds, warm furnishings and a display of exciting and vibrant artwork to provide you with an experience that's more than just a good nights sleep. Walk along the original flagstone floors, unwind in the snug seclusion of one of the armchairs where you can kick back with a good book. The Library is a food lovers dream but without the fuss, offering a splendid country dining experience with seasonally changing menus. In warmer months, you can dine with your pooch at the new Pavillion Garden Bar, in the Bear Bar, or in the Common Room.

Venture outside to the Hotel's Pavillion Garden Bar which offers a real garden party feel with fairy lights, deckchairs and Kilner jars filled with treats, the Pavillion serves drinks and a menu of family favourites with something for everyone to enjoy. Home to the dog-walking community and golf enthusiasts, with a course perfectly positioned in the heart of The Common, The Bear also has another special local grazing nearby. The herd of Belted Galloway's were the first cows to ever roam The Common, and have been cherished as part of the community ever since. And of course, the surrounding Cotswold countryside views are second to none with plenty of walks to explore and scents to be sniffed out on the doorstep!

Dine with Your Dog

You can dine with your pet in the Common Room, at the Bear Bar, or on sunny days in the garden in the Pavillion Garden Bar. Expect a real garden party feel with fairy lights, deckchairs and classic Kilner jars filled up with your favourite treats - there's even a retro popcorn machine and slushies for grown-ups! Weather dependent, the Pavillion bar is open daily to serving drinks and a menu of family favourites. If your pooch prefers to relax, they can stay in your room – just remember to leave your ‘do not disturb’ sign hanging on the door! If you fancy trying some other locally-sourced dishes, stop in at dog-friendly pubs The Old Fleece, Amberley Inn and Prince Albert just a bone's throw away from the hotel! If your dog is happy in the room you could also enjoy country dining at its finest at The Bear’s in-house restaurant. Providing good quality food with Great British flair, the seasonal menus are made using nothing but fantastic local produce with something on the menu for everyone.

Bow wow factor

Has to be The Bear’s super dog-friendly ethos! The staff love welcoming pet guests and will shower your dog with lots of fuss.
