About this property

Crosse Chance Cottage is a cosy country cottage nestled in the village of Taddington lovingly cared for and the perfect place to recharge your batteries, and as featured in the Sunday Times, this property came 6th out of 50 best cottages to stay at in Britain. It retains many of its original features, with a multi-fuel burner set in an original grit-stone fireplace and quaint rooms with beamed ceilings. It also has a beautiful kitchen designed by Gabrielle Blackwood of the BBC’s Design SOS fame. The cottage is ideally situated for walkers, from Taddington you can walk to the surrounding pretty villages of Chelmorton, Flag, Sheldon and Monyash. It is also possible to walk from the cottage and pick up the Monsal Trail by walking through the magnificent limestone dale of Deep Dale, which lies between Taddington and Sheldon. The Limestone Way passes through the village and is just one of many fine routes for walkers. This lovely property is also on the bus route from Manchester to Derby. Nearby are some beautiful dales and grassy hilltops with spectacular panoramic views. Just 6 miles away is the market town of Bakewell and the spa town of Buxton, with its internationally acclaimed Opera House. Visit the 10,000-acre Chatsworth Estate and beautiful stately home, 10 miles away. It is 7 miles to Haddon Hall and further afield is the Peak steam railway, the National Tramway Museum at Crich, Matlock Bath and the Blue John Cavern at Castleton. Golf and horse riding are within 5 miles. A perfect family base with plenty of games and jigsaws to keep everyone entertained, and plenty of attractions locally. Shop and restaurant 5½ miles, pub 50 yards.

Dine with Your Dog

The kitchen at Crosse Chance Cottage is a delight to cook in, with real country charm in bucketloads. If you fancy eating out though, the Queens Arms in the village is dog-friendly, as are many of the Peak Districts best food-serving pubs.

Bow wow factor

Has to be the proximity to the entire Peak District. In the centre of the National Park, you couldn’t be in a better location.
