Dog-Friendly Nearby

The bustling town of Reading is just up the road and is full of fun things to do. Survey the ruins of Reading Abbey with your furry friend, or follow the winding River Thames, which makes for a great walking route. The quieter town of Henley-on-Thames is also accessible via a short drive and is well worth a gander. Chock-full of historic buildings and independent stores, Henley-on-Thames is a swanky spot to enjoy some retail therapy. Of course, no stay at the Crown would be complete without a trip to the Chilterns, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where vast valleys and dense woodlands abound. Your dog will certainly love exploring the green fields and gentle streams of this picturesque region. There are also plenty of historic sights to sniff out, such as the 18th-century Basildon Park country house, where canines can trek through colourful gardens and parkland. And, as a nice change of pace from secluded nature walks, hop over to London, only an hour by train, for big-city thrills. After a day of exploring stop in at the award-winning Nag’s Head, regularly voted one of the best boozers around, or head to the Miller of Mansfield, winner of the Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year Award in 2016.
