Attached to the owners’ home, High Hurst is part of an original 18th-century farmhouse which has smaller outbuildings, including an original Victorian outhouse. It is surrounded by 20 acres of prime grazing land encompassing a quarter of a mile stretch of the River Duddon, this spate river is crossed by a series of ancient stepping stones along its length. During the lambing season and winter months, Herdwick sheep occupy the associated farmland prior to release onto the upper fells, leaving the owners small flock of Ryeland sheep as permanent residents of the farm, keeping the hens company.
