About this property

Islay House is one of Scotland’s grandest and most historic dog-friendly country house hotels, located at the centre of the Queen of the Hebrides, Islay: the Whisky Isle. Built in 1677 and set in 28 acres of gardens and protected woodland overlooking Loch Indaal, Islay House possesses one of the most naturally beautiful locations in the United Kingdom. From the stunning views across the ornate lawns out to the sea loch to the scenic Bridgend Woods surrounding the House, Islay House offers everything that could be asked of a trip to Scotland. Ideally placed for adventures with your canine companion you'll find space to roam and discover beaches within walking distance. With nine globally renowned whisky distilleries, Scotland's best kept golfing secret (The Machrie), some of the best sailing, fishing, shooting and stalking in Britain, as well as a multitude of breath-taking walks all a stone’s throw away, there is plenty to suit every taste on Islay. Whether you are looking for a peaceful retreat or to enjoy the famous whisky, Islay House provides a luxurious sanctuary from which you can explore the Isle with your hound in tow.

Dine with Your Dog

If you would like to dine or breakfast with your four-legged friend the hotel can set up a table in the Drawing Room, alternatively they are more than welcome to rest their paws in the room whilst you dine. The hotel's own Community Garden provides a wealth of island, home-grown produce for the kitchen to provide a delicious menu. Executive Chef, David Thomson, takes advantage of the local catch before it makes its way to London and Paris. Tables are available daily from 10am for lunches and afternoon Teas, and evening meals are from 6.30pm. And if you are heading out for a day walking the Chefs would be delighted to put together a lunch hamper for you.

Dog-Friendly Nearby

Walking and Islay go hand in hand as the Island boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the United Kingdom. Take in stunning sights like the snow-capped Paps of Jura, the Sound of Islay and the rugged, wild beauty of the Rhinns. The hotel staff can recommend a variety of walking routes on Islay, from a brisk hike to a more gentle stroll - perhaps catch sight of Islay's many bird species or the local seals. You can reach Islay using the dog-friendly ferry which departs from the port of Kennacraig on the mainland. The hotel is only around 20 minutes from either of the ports on the isle.
