At the rear of the property is a small patio with table, chairs and barbecue, perfect for enjoying a grilled feast in the summer months. On-site there are some facilities; take a splash in the outdoor pool, allow the children to explore the play area or cast your rod in one of the fishing lakes. The village of Pevensey is close and is home to Pevensey Castle, one of the last remaining ‘Saxon Shore’ forts, whilst slightly further along lies Eastbourne, where you can enjoy beach days, explore the Victorian pier and a host of amusements, the Towner Art Gallery, the historic Redoubt Fortress and the Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway. Alternatively, travel to the historic town of Hastings; here you can tour Hastings Castle and Hastings Museum and Art Gallery. Lilyrose Cottage is a fantastic base for exploring this part of Southern England.

There are a few basic utilities in Stone Cross, and there are numerous pubs and tea shops in Polegate and Hailsham where you may get all you need on a daily basis. There are various locations close to the cottage where you can access the Cuckoo Trail, a 14-mile network of paths for walking and bicycling from which you can breathe in the Sussex air and take in the scenery. As one of England's oldest castles, the village of Pevensey offers visitors the chance to travel back in time as they tour the imposing ruins or explore the dungeons. Pevensey Bay is also a haven for wildlife, so while you're here, why not have a dip in the water? A day at Drusillas Zoo makes for a memorable experience for kids of all ages. You may also spend the day in the village of Alfriston, which has cobblestone streets and antique stores. Stone Cross is a great spot to stay if you want to explore the coast or the numerous neighbouring ancient towns because it has great transportation connections to all of Sussex and into London.
