About this property

Situated down a quiet farm track, Merlins cottage has spectacular sea views and is surrounded by National Trust Farmland. The historic town of Tintagel is just a 5-minute walk over the fields and directly ahead lies the famous South West Coastal Path, giving you access to some the most stunning walks in the country. All rooms at the front of the house enjoy breathtaking coastal views and the rear of the property looks out over miles of open farmland. Merlins Cottage is ideal for large gatherings, with ample private parking for up to four vehicles and set in an idyllic location, with superb panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. As you enter the property, coats and boots can conveniently be left in the entrance porch before entering the spacious farmhouse kitchen, which is complete with an open fire and weathered flagstone flooring. The kitchen is an ideal space to cater for large groups, with a dishwasher, two fridge/freezers and a large Range cooker, while the dining table is conveniently placed at the far end of the kitchen, giving it a lovely open-plan feel. Leading off from the kitchen/diner are two generous sitting rooms with an inter-connecting archway; the rooms are separated by a beautiful, heavy curtain, so while some guests may choose to watch TV, others can curl up with a book by the wood- burning stove. The conservatory overlooks the enclosed garden to the front of the property and has a stunning ocean view; families with children can enjoy watching the children outside from the warmth and comfort of the conservatory, a big attraction when the wind blows! The extensive lawn is big enough to kick a ball around and a gravelled area with furniture is perfect for enjoying the view over an alfresco meal in the sunshine. Merlins Cottage has a beautiful garden overlooking the sea that has recently been fenced so is now completely contained for pets. The garden is contained at the front with an attractive wooden picket fence and all other borders are fenced with a discreet mesh wire within the hedge so that pets cannot escape onto the road or into neighbouring gardens. There is a king-size bedroom on the ground floor with zip and link beds, so it can easily be made into a twin if required, while the adjoining en-suite shower room makes it an ideal space for any guests with mobility issues. Heading upstairs, you will find three generously sized bedrooms; a double with en-suite bath and shower and two further doubles with a shared shower room. A great deal of care and attention has gone into creating maximum comfort in each room; the mattresses are of extremely high quality and the linen is all Egyptian Cotton of the highest thread count and sourced from The White Company. The boiler runs efficiently, making sure that there is plenty of hot water on demand after returning from chilly days at the beach. The owners firmly believe that comfort is all in the detail and that is what sets this house apart. Tintagel itself is an ancient town steeped in history and the legend of King Arthur. Tintagel Castle is just a short walk from the house and visitors can now access the castle from the mainland to the headland over the jaw-dropping new footbridge that was erected in 2018 to global acclaim. After visiting the castle, you can explore Merlin's Cave, a 330-foot-long sea cave set below the castle which is said to be the home of Merlin the wizard. Tintagel village has range of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants which are all just a short walk away, also within walking distance are several sandy beaches, including Trebarwith Strand and Bossiney Cave, both of which boast fantastic waves for any budding surfers, while Trebarwith Strand is safe for swimming and surfing, with a team of lifeguards permanently on standby. Follow the coastal path just a short distance up the coast and you will reach the picturesque fishing village of Boscastle, where you can explore the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic or find time to relax in one of the many cafes. Along the way to Boscastle, be sure to stop off at St Nectan's Glen, a stunning woodland area, rich in wildlife and complete with an impressive 60 foot waterfall. Head south along the coastal path and you will reach the historic village of Port Isaac, which you may recognise from popular TV dramas including Fisherman’s Friends and Doc Martin. A few miles on and you reach Polzeath, which has a wide range of shops and surfing facilities. Merlins Cottage is a truly magical property with outstanding views and is ideally suited for exploring the dramatic North Cornwall coastline with friends and family.
