Activity hotel
The hotel is located in a beautiful area, but beware of those small country lanes!
Looks like theres lots for families to enjoy; as 2 adults we were a little disappointed with the pools - the outside pool is very small, and with 2 families playing in it looked almost full. Drinks served to us on our loungers were a good alternative!
The indoor pool is literally just that. No loungers around the sides unfortunately.
Our bedroom in the manor house was excellent, very comfortable and well equipped. The bathroom was undoubtedly dated but was very clean and the supplied toiletries were lovely.
With the exception of the Bramley Apple Trifle (disappointingly this lacked flavour), the food was excellent, although the menu choice is small.
We used the hotel as a base for visiting RHS Rosemoor; we certainly didn't make the best use of the facilities, partly for the reasons above but nevertheless we enjoyed our stay.
Exceeded our Expections
We had a wonderful stay at The Mole and it exceeded our expectations, with very comfortable and well equipped rooms, excellent food and well-trained and pleasant staff. The location was so relaxing and a real tonic to get away from all the hustle and bustle of towns/ traffic and just hear birdsong and see panoramic country views. Lovely for our dog with his own dog welcome pack and exercise area.
We found the food first class and service excellent - nothing was too much trouble, and waiting staff were knowledgeable and professional.
No real complaints, but just two things that warrant a comment:-
Firstly, the breakfast quality of food was very good (best croissants we have tasted), but although a vast array of alternative milks on offer, there was just fruit flavoured yoghurts and no plain ones. I did ask for plain and got a plant based portion in a dish, but this ran out on one day. However, no plain milk yoghurt available. It is restricting if you want to avoid sugar. Also limited fruit - we had a kiwi on the first day but the next day this was not replenished and only hard pears, apples/oranges/ripe bananas. A summer berry compote or more choice of soft fruit (which was replenished daily) would have been good to have with yoghurt.
Secondly, although we enjoyed the indoor pool/sauna etc, were surprised to find in the changing rooms that there was no spin-dryer to spin rinsed swimwear. Most indoor pools I have used have this facility, which ensures swimwear is nearly dry. It was nice to have a heated outdoor pool, but more loungers and umbrellas are needed to meet demand.
Hopefully this feedback will be constructive. All in all we have a lovely relaxing time and we were blessed with sunny weather to enable us to enjoy the outdoor pool area.
Lovely relaxing break
This is our third visit here but our first since it has been changed to The Mole. We loved that the room we stayed in was as lovely and the original house has not been changed as it is such a characterful beautiful property. The new additions of the lodges and all of the activities are good but for us not what we needed but good that we felt they were separate and did not affect what we love about this place. One of our favourite parts of our previous visits was the gourmet restaurant but sadly this has changed. The food is perfectly acceptable but not the special restaurant it was before. Having said that we now know this so our expectations will not be there with the food which would not necessarily stop us from visiting again.
