Overview

The Moorland Hotel is a dog-friendly country house hotel in Haytor situated in the heart of Dartmoor National Park - surrounded by nature and with stunning views across the Moors and the famous Haytor Rocks. Dating back to 1887 the hotel was built for tourists visiting Haytor Rocks and in 1916 was famously visited by Agatha Christie where she began writing The Mysterious Affair at Styles.

In a glorious rural setting you and your best furry friend can explore the 11 acres of gorgeous grounds surrounding the hotel as well as the timeless rock structures that are dotted throughout the surrounding hills. The hotel has a number of dog-friendly rooms conveniently sited on the ground floor with direct access to the grounds as well as a dog-friendly brasserie where can dine with your dog. The hotel is surrounded by fabulous walks including two of Dartmoor’s best walks, Burrator Dam and Dewerstone Wood. Buckland Abbey and Bovey Tracey aren also nearby.

The 11 acres of fabulous gardens make a wonderful playground for your dog. Also the dog-friendly ground floor rooms with seating outside for the humans to watch their four legged friends play or relax in the shade.

Bedrooms & Suites

The bedrooms at The Moorland Hotel are traditional, stylish and comfortable, individually designed with soft pillows and comfortable mattresses along with modern amenities to ensure a relaxing stay in Haytor. Four legged friends are welcome in seven designated dog friendly rooms which are all located on the ground floor and have patio doors leading out to the gardens. These also have outside furniture to relax in the sunshine.

You can dine with your dog in the Tinpickle & Rhum Bar and Brasserie which serves up a delicious array of locally sourced food and ales including lamb chops, salmon, burgers and steaks. The lounge is also dog friendly where you can enjoy a light bite at lunchtime or drinks in the evening. Or if you would rather leave your dog in the room you can dine in the Conservatory with fabulous views towards Torbay.
