About this property

Situated in the Surrey hills, this delightful, dog-friendly country house dates back to the 16th Century, when it was sold by Henry Owen to the Evelyn family. John Evelyn, one of three sons of Richard Evelyn, was passionate about botanicals and arboriculture and was particularly spellbound by the Italian Renaissance gardens he had seen on his tour of Italy. Inspired by what he had discovered on his travels he constructed an Italian garden and temple. Since this time, the estate has been passed through the Evelyn family and was home to the Canadian Army during the Second World War.

Today, the house is a home from home with 13 acres of beautiful grounds dotted with temples and grottos where your dog can roam free. The interiors are characterful and quirky with a gorgeous bar and Old Gothic library. The bedrooms are spacious and light and furry friends will have a bed, bowl and treat to use. And as well as busy days dog walking in the Surrey Hills, guests can also enjoy the gym, indoor pool, steam room and tennis courts.

Dine with Your Dog

You can dine with your dog in the ornate 1877 bar. Formerly an orangery it has a decadent Gatsbyesque feel about it and serves delicious cocktails - you can enjoy the same menu as served in the main restaurant including slow cooked shoulder of lamb and roasted corn fed chicken breast. Breakfast is also served in the bar.
