Me & My Pet: Katie Piper
We speak exclusively to Katie Piper, author, inspirational speaker, TV presenter and charity founder about how she has expanded her family with an adored new puppy Sugar, she has adopted from Battersea Dog’s Home, and the difference she has made to her life.
Tell us about your new book ‘Still Beautiful’ and the projects you’re working on at the moment?

My new book Still Beautiful is a deeply personal project. It’s about resilience, identity, and learning to embrace who you are—scars and all. I wanted to write something that reflects the strength in vulnerability. I started writing the book when I turned 40 and saw how society acts to women ageing and the value we place on youth and beauty. I want the reader to feel empowered to own their narrative and not feel afraid to take up space. This isn’t a book for just a woman of my age, it’s for anyone who is at a transition point in their life right now.
I have two new TV projects out now, Katie Piper: Locked Up in Louisiana, every Sunday 9pm on U&W and it’s available to binge all 5 episodes on their streaming platform now. It was a powerful experience—it’s a documentary exploring women in the US prison system, and it really opened my eyes to the complexities of justice and trauma. And you can also catch me every Sunday morning 8.25am for Katie Pipers Weekend Escape on ITV, it is pure joy! I get to interview celebrities at my retreat, try out the latest wellness and fitness craze with them and also cook some fabulous food. It’s perfect for some feel-good escapism on a Sunday morning!
We love Sugar! How did you find each other?
Sugar came into my life through Battersea Cats and Dogs Home. As a family we had been looking for a new addition to complete us, and as soon as I saw her, I just knew. There was an instant bond—she’s got this lovely, gentle energy. It felt meant to be.

What is a typical day for you and Sugar?
We usually start with a walk—she loves her morning sniff around the fields. Then I’m either off filming, writing, or on Zoom calls, and she’s always nearby, often asleep on my feet! In the evenings, we unwind together—she’s a great little cuddle bug.
How does she get on with the rest of the family?
She’s a total hit! The girls adore her, and my husband is just as smitten. Sugar has slotted into the family so naturally—it’s like she’s always been here.
Does she have a best friend?
She’s just started puppy training classes and really loves to socialise, she likes to jump up a lot though!
Does she have some favourite parks or cafes she likes to go to?
She loves Richmond Park for long walks and squirrel-watching. And there’s a lovely dog-friendly café near us that does amazing puppuccinos—she’s definitely a fan!

What difference has she made to your life and any life lessons she has taught you?
She’s brought so much calm and comfort. There’s something so grounding about having a dog—she’s taught me to slow down and be present. And her unconditional love is a daily reminder of how healing companionship can be.
Any funny incidents involving Sugar?
She once jumped into the bath mid-bubble bath thinking it was a giant water bowl! It was chaos—but hilarious.
Anything you feel particularly strongly about with regard to animal welfare?
Absolutely. I believe every animal deserves a safe, loving home. Supporting rescue centres like Battersea is so important—they do incredible work, and every animal has a story and a second chance waiting.
Anywhere you like to travel with Sugar? Anywhere you would like to visit with PetsPyjamas?
We love the Cotswolds—it’s peaceful, scenic, and super dog-friendly. I’d love to go on a countryside retreat through PetsPyjamas—somewhere with long walks, fresh air, and maybe a cosy fireplace!
Katie Piper’s chosen charity is Battersea Cats and Dogs Home and a donation has been made on her behalf.
