How to include Your Four-Legged Friend in Your Wedding

It’s officially wedding season, and at PetsPyjamas we’re all for dog-friendly weddings! As dogs are like a member of the family, it’s only natural to want them to be part of your big day. Here are some top tips to help keep things stress-free for you and your furry friend!

Do confirm that your venue allows dogs. Make sure that you ask about their pet policy before you sign a contract and talk through any fun ideas you have with the event manager to see what is doable and what is unrealistic. Remember, if a venue has a ‘no dog’ rule it is likely based on health and legal requirements that you should be aware of before confirming your venue.

Do create a wedding day schedule for your pooch and assign a dog-loving family member or a friend to look after them. Make a plan as to what time your pooch will be arriving at the venue, where they will be at different times of the day and how you will provide them with all the necessities – food, water and toilet breaks!

Don’t trust your pooch to walk down the aisle by themselves. If you want your dog to participate in the ceremony, you should have them walk with a member of the wedding such as the groom, the flower girl or the ring bearer, or even the person you assigned as their handler for the day.

Don’t forget the treats! It is likely that someone your dog doesn’t know very well will need to give commands that day. Much like dealing with children, a little bribery can go a long way! Pack treats and be sure to teach your handler key phrases and commends that your canine companion will respond to.
