Great place for a short break
We stayed 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel.
Staff were great, restaurant superb and enough to do in and about the hotel itself to amuse and keep the break interesting. The museum is very interesting, the walks just great and the pitch and putt and tennis courts in the grounds confined our visits into Pitlochry itself. The town has an interesting dam and fish ladder and the distillery a couple of hundred metres away worth a visit.
Would definitely recommend for a holiday.
A Super Scottish Break!
Our second stay here and we were once again really pleased with the Atholl Palace. We thoroughly enjoyed walking in the hotel grounds and our visit to Black Spout was well worth the effort. Excellent food and service from friendly professional staff helped to make this a super Scottish break!
First time at The Palace
The ratings provided were as accurate as I could make. The room itself got only a good due to its size. The shower, toilet and sink room was extremely tight to manoeuvre in if you re of a certain size. The heating in there was unbelievably hot. The heated towel rail could be very dangerous if a child or elderly person was to stumble in the tight confines of the toilet room. It was constantly burning hot. The sleeping room measured only about 13 x 12 approximately which for the price paid was a bit too small in my opinion. The hotel was fairly clean though the floor in the bar could do with a daily sweep as food was seen on the floor under the tables from the day before. The best was the staff who worked very very hard for very long hours, nothing was too much to ask. I can t honestly answer the question below re-staying here again so I have deliberately left it unanswered.

How to get here
By Train
Pitlochry Station is on the main rail line between London, Edinburgh and Inverness. Regular trains, and one overnight sleeper train, run through Pitlochry from London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Direct trains between London Kings Cross and Pitlochry run twice daily making London just over 6 hours away.
The station at Pitlochry has a bridge that can be difficult to negotiate for visitors with disabilities. Scotrail will make sure that you have all the assistance you require if you contact them in advance. It takes around 15-20 minutes to walk to Atholl Palace Hotel from the train station. Please bear in mind it is an uphill walk.
By Car
Approaching Pitlochry from the South, take the A924 (signposted for Pitlochry) off the A9. After passing the Blair Athol distillery on your right, continue under a railway bridge and turn right into the Atholl Palace entrance. From the north , take the A924 (signposted for Pitlochry) off the A9. The A924 is the main street through Pitlochry. Continue right through the town and turn sharp left just before the railway bridge.
Getting to Scotland By Air
The closest major airport is Edinburgh, at just over 1 hour away by car. Dundee also has a small airport, which is approximately 45 minutes drive away. Glasgow international is 90 minutes away and Prestwick 2 hours.
