Atholl Palace break
We had a double room which had a wonderful view. A bottle of chilled Prosecco was in the room as part of the deal. The provision of a small fridge in the room is most welcome to keep the bottles of water provided chilled . In addition the public areas are spacious with log burning fires surrounded by comfy chairs and sofas at several locations. There is a spa but we did not take advantage of it. There is a small museum which gives a very I interesting history of the hotel. The hotel is only a short walk from Pitlochry but there are also a number of paths around the grounds. A map of the hotel and the grounds is provided so you can choose which walks you wish to take. The staff were all very polite and helpful. Zoshya welcomed us and having established that this was our first visit explained where everything was. Our break was only 2 nights and I'm hoping to have a longer break there soon but I would also like to spend time there at Christmas. All in all it was wonderful visit.

A revisit
My wife and me stayed here for our honeymoon a lot of years ago. We have been back about 15 years ago, and were well pleased with our visit this time. Log fires and a cosy bar appeal to me, we both liked the new style restaurant and the food quality. Location is very good, easy and pleasant walk to Pitlochry. My only criticism, the price of drinks, especially wine at dinner, is excessive, a reason for some of the increase may be that Scotland has a different pricing system on alcohol to the rest of the UK. All in all, very good, reception especially friendly, helpful and efficient.

How to get here
By Train
Pitlochry Station is on the main rail line between London, Edinburgh and Inverness. Regular trains, and one overnight sleeper train, run through Pitlochry from London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Direct trains between London Kings Cross and Pitlochry run twice daily making London just over 6 hours away.
The station at Pitlochry has a bridge that can be difficult to negotiate for visitors with disabilities. Scotrail will make sure that you have all the assistance you require if you contact them in advance. It takes around 15-20 minutes to walk to Atholl Palace Hotel from the train station. Please bear in mind it is an uphill walk.
By Car
Approaching Pitlochry from the South, take the A924 (signposted for Pitlochry) off the A9. After passing the Blair Athol distillery on your right, continue under a railway bridge and turn right into the Atholl Palace entrance. From the north , take the A924 (signposted for Pitlochry) off the A9. The A924 is the main street through Pitlochry. Continue right through the town and turn sharp left just before the railway bridge.
Getting to Scotland By Air
The closest major airport is Edinburgh, at just over 1 hour away by car. Dundee also has a small airport, which is approximately 45 minutes drive away. Glasgow international is 90 minutes away and Prestwick 2 hours.
