Atholl Palace Hotel
Everything to do with the booking was excellent. I have visited the location at Pitlochry dozens of times, but on this occasion I was using a wheelchair. Access on a wheelchair is via a steep ramp to the side of the main entrance. The steepness makes it hard to enter the building and should be remembered when you are leaving. The door at the top of the ramp is quite difficult to open both ways.
My only complaint was a young couple who did not wear a mask at all throughout the first 2 days. There were lots of comments from other guests especially when they were getting their breakfast and leaving their table. Staff were sympathetic but did nothing about it
Great stay
Went in October with a friend for a staycation and picked the hotel as it was such good value for money. Our deal included dinner bed and breakfast, bottle of Prosecco in the room on arrival and afternoon tea if the spa was unavailable.
Arrived early so completed paper then headed for the bar until we were allocated our room, bit shocked at the price of the drinks until you realize that it was 3 for a bottle of tonic or lemonade as it was fevertree and there was no alternative, something the hotel needs to address.
Room was a twin on the second floor and was spacious enough, with a beautiful big en suite with large walk in shower. Also the Prosecco was waiting on ice, and it was delicious, one of the best I ve had.
Meals in the restaurant were efficient, two sittings early and late, I think due to COVID-19. Food was delivered hot and big portions, good solid food, very filling and out deal included three courses. Breakfast was buffet and loads of choices to choose from, constantly topped up by attentive staff.
Only negative for this hotel would be the location, which is great for people who enjoy the outdoors and walking, but it was a bit too far to walk to the village for my friend to do so we had to take the car or a taxi. Pitlochry is an ideal location for trips throughout the central belt.
Would definitely return.
Ideal short break
One of the nicest places we have stayed! Very happy with our room, which was facing outwards with a wonderful view. Surprised to find daily room servicing - until now, with covid, wherever we have stayed our room has not been touched during our stay. Also surprised - and delighted! - to find the return of the buffet breakfast, and an excellent one it was. Both of our evening meals were also excellent. Would certainly return, and would request a room with a view!
