Birthday weekend
My friend and I had a twin Valley Castle room.
The room was well appointed and large with a massive bathroom. The beds were very comfortable.
The hotel overall is luxurious but with a relaxed and unpretentious feel - dressing up is fine but if you want to be more casual that is fine too (we did both).
We ate in Smith's which was impressive - good value for a hotel restaurant and good quality food. The atmosphere was vibrant and relaxed with both resident and non-resident diners.
We also had afternoon tea (lovely and lots of it) - we were the only customers doing this on the Friday and tea was in the GW restaurant - my preference would be for tea in one of the lounges (as I have done so in the past). I'm unsure if Covid has altered how tea is organised.
We liked our walk around the grounds but did find the golf course took over and restricted true use of the grounds.
Great location
Enjoyed our short stay. I was disappointed to find that the main restaurant was closed and the Brasserie was nothing special.. I booked on a DB&B basis so this compounded the disappointment.
Bovey stay - September 2021
A thoroughly enjoyable 5 night break. From the moment of arrival to departure was a very pleasant stay and will definitely go back. Staff were warm, welcoming and friendly and very helpful. Food was exquisite the only downside was two restaurants were shut but Smith s Brasserie certainly provided great fayre and we weren t disappointed. It will be something to look forward to next time we visit. Activities were many and the few we booked I.e. deer park tour, archery and clay pigeon shooting were thoroughly enjoyed and the instructors were excellent.
Many enjoyable afternoons/ evenings were spent in the Oak Room and Jason, the bartender was brilliant. A true gentleman and a very knowledgeable man on Gin. He taught us a lot.
The location/ setting is spectacular and breathtaking and highly recommended.

Location & Local Attractions
There is so much to do at Bovey with its own activities, you must try and make time for the local attractions like the Becky Falls Woodland Park which is only 15mins away and has been welcoming visitors since 1903. It has been voted Devon's top beauty spot and one of WWF's amazing family days out - with the breathtaking waterfalls and baby meerkats it is definitely worth a visit.
