Chris Coe 2 night stay
Hotel had a boiler problem, so could smell oil for our 2 days stay. Had to keep windows closed for duration of our stay, so very hot in our room.
Probably wrong time to stay because of present situation. Feel we didn t experience the best of the hotel, as facilities not all available.
An excellent short break
Very well looked after. Immediately moved to suite when our heating went into overdrive! In all respects the staff were excellent - nothing was too much trouble. We had meals in both restaurants and were impressed. Wine list was first rate. Lovely rooms to relax in after dinner with coffee and a brandy. The weather was atrocious but that did not stop us having a lovely break. Only regret was my wife's spa treatment being cancelled at very short notice on our final morning. Notwithstanding that, we will certainly look to come again.
Off Peak Break
Excellent staff on the whole though I was put off at the start when I had just arrived after a 30 minute detour to get to the hotel due to road works. The main problem was that I was following the hotel instructions but had to turn back as the road was blocked and there were no diversion signs. When I mentioned this at the desk I was told that there were notices put up on the website. This was really a bit dull by the lady concerned and could easily have been avoid by letting me know in one of the MANY e-mails I'd had concerning my stay.
Apart from this i found the staff very attentive, helpful and friendly. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her session in the spa and the swimming and sauna were good, though the pool was over chlorinated to my mind.
The room in the attic was comfortable but the heating system took a bit of a knack to get the room to a livable temperature - it was way too hot on arrival. Great views from the bedroom in the morning.
The grounds were beautiful and it was a pity we couldn't stay longer as there seems so much to do there.
