Our times plus experience

Anon, stayed: October 2018

There was no prosecco waiting in our room as promised - we had to ask for it
There was confusion re: our free bottle of wine with dinner
There were no canap s offered - we had to ask for it
Those on deals were seated apart from other customers
The choices offered on the dinner menu were disappointing
Again there was confusion regarding our afternoon tea and we had to show our paperwork to clarify our entitlement
However the breakfasts and quality of food were excellent

Thank you for your review and I am sorry there was some confusion with your booking. We usually bring up the prosecco to the room when asked so that is is nice and cold, since arrival times can vary from 3pm-late into the evening. Canapes are normally brought to the table with your menus, not served in the lounge area but if they were not brought to the dinner table I do apologise. I can assure you though that diners on deals are not seated apart from other guests - on a normal night everyone eats together. The only time some guests are seated separately is if we have an events night such as a Murder Mystery or Chocolate Tasting that residents opt not to take part in (as there is an extra charge for these events). These events take part in a separate room to those that have opted out so as not to disturb residents dinners.
I am sorry for the confusion regarding the wine and afternoon tea and I have issued the staff with further training regarding our offers so that this does not happen in the future.
I am pleased you enjoyed the food - I shall pass your feedback onto the chef.
Kind regards,
Laura, Front Desk Manager

Excellent food in this quirky hotel

Anon, stayed: August 2018

We had a very underwhelming welcome which was a bit disconcerting. Our room was very musty as though it hadn t been aired for a while and the bathroom although clean never smelt fresh. The decor was quite good but there were stains on the carpet by the dressing table. The bed was made up so the duvet cover only came up to your waist when you were in it!
The food at breakfast and dinner throughout our stay was exceptional and the waiting staff were very friendly and helpful.
The atmosphere in the lounge areas lacked warmth and there is a strange collection of ornaments and furniture, because of this we did not feel we wanted to spend anytime in the hotel other than to eat and subsequently planned our days so we were out until dinner. We hope in time that more attention will be given to the grounds as they could be beautiful but are very lacking in charm and plants at the moment.

Thank you for your review.
I am sorry you felt the room was not quite right had you said we would have checked the basin and shower wastes although these are treated regularly there may have been reason for an extra treatment. The room and bathroom were decorated in January with a new bath as well so generally should be up to scratch. A red wine incident on the carpet sometimes takes several attempts. I suppose quirky comes with a certain look and some unusual pieces around anyway not minimalist. The overriding comments about our lounges are found very relaxing but I quite understand no one can be all things to all people so our style may not be your preference. We do show many pictures on our website and others of all our areas and rooms to help potential guests make an informed choice. Our gardens as everywhere have suffered from the lack of water this year.

An underwhelming experience, in particular the evening meals and the restaurant accommodation

Thomas, Gloucestershire, stayed: September 2017

The rooms in the Coach House were of a good standard as was to be expected in a new build. The absence of a hand (wall) rail in the shower or above the bath was a concern. We found the evening meals were generally over portioned and lacked finesse. Haunch of venison served with over salted celeriac / fondant potato on the first evening was an unfortunate introduction. Another evening half a lobster was accompanied by two sliced tomatoes, green beans, salad leaves, potatoes, feta cheese and pine nuts plus, not on the menu, beetroot and olives, all of which overwhelmed the lobster .On three of our seven evenings we were seated in a lobby adjacent to the restaurant which was stark and not overly warm, an unexpected experience .
