Luxury Gourmet Escape - Bad Beginnings

Amanda, Oxon, stayed: September 2014

No warm welcome on arrival. Shown to Room 4 but sadly it was not to our liking because there was no shower (a basic need for someone with a back injury who has difficulty getting in & out of a bath), we explained this and politely asked for a room with a shower. We were then shown to Room 7 (a loft room with low beams) which was also not ideal although it did have a nice quadrant shower. The lady said we would have to stay here for one night and then she would move us to either Room 2 or 3 which would be available from tomorrow (Mon). We agreed and were happy with this arrangement. Then a while later a lady called Laura phoned and said either we stay where we are or she could contact OPL and ask them to relocate us to a different hotel in the area. We were shocked to say the least, we had only just arrived at our chosen hotel and it seemed like they wanted rid of us. What happened to the arrangement agreed earlier? As we were not travelling alone, moving to another hotel was not an option for us and the other members of our party were happy with their room (Room 6 - a large room with shower and its own private balcony) so we decided to put up with our room and not let a bad start spoil our week long holiday.
The bar and restaurant staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The food, on the whole, was excellent and there was ample choice on the menu. However, I would not have expected such brilliant and experienced chefs to serve up rare steak when it should have been well done and decide to add a very hard seed (described to me as a Japanese Seed) to the Pork Terrine starter which was extremely uncomfortable when biting down on and spoilt the whole meal for me. I thought the terrine was supposed to be served with piccalilli, I love piccalilli, where was the piccalilli guys?
Would stay again but not in Loft Rooms or Room 4.

We say...

We're sorry the room allocated initially didn't suit you. We do advise that you let us know of any particular requirements for your room in advance of arrival, so that we can ensure you are allocated a room that will be right for you. This is particularly important with smaller and more individual hotels such as Orestone Manor, where rooms do have their individual quirks and many customers will find that some suit them much better than others.

Orestone Manor says...

We're a little surprised by this review as you did make very positive comments in our visitors book, and at no stage after seeing your (second) room did you seem at all unhappy with it. The conversations about moving rooms all took place BEFORE you had seen room 7. On hearing that it was the only alternative to room 4 available. you looked at it, and seemed delighted with it, so we thought the issue was resolved. It is a very popular room, as it has a separate lounge and one of our best bathrooms.

We can quite understand why room 4 didn't suit you due to currently not having a shower (we are hoping to get one put in during our January shut down, incidentally), but unfortunately we didn't know of this requirement in advance of your arrival. Now that we do, we'll be sure to allocate a more suitable room should you return, and we very much hope to see you again.

Best hotel stay ever!

RH, Bristol, stayed: September 2014

we stayed at Orestone Manor in September this year and is was absolute bliss! Beuatiful rooms with it's own patio and hot tub and the room and bathroom were lovely with fantastic views and a lovel four poster bed. The patio are was private and not overlooked with a grarden gate which separated the hotel from the garden room. Excellent room service too. But above this, the staff were so welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough for the guests. Absolutely superb - I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
